PM John Leidel on Reutterwerk. He's got a '79 and I believe his pod is out of the car.

Wow, none of that is factory, somebody bypassed I imagine a bad connector on the circuit board and soldered all those wires directly to it.

Main concern I think is would stuff fry if you get some wires wrong.

I also don't see how a picture will help since you have no way of knowing if the PO followed original colors with the repair, or if he used the same color on both side of the connectors, or just cut into the factory harness and put on spades.

Do the wire colors on each side of the connection match up?

Too bad he did not at least make a drawing of what he disconnected. Yes, some bad soldering done. Maybe someone has the mating connector with wire colors on it.

It kind of looks like the PO used the wiring in the car, just pulled the terminals free from the original car-side connector, cut them, installed male/female terminals, soldered the terminals to the board connector and called it good. I see two pinkish wires conjoined at the terminal car-side, and I also see two pinkish wires conjoined on the pod, that's why I think the colors may match up.

I believe I read a post on this board, that mentioned (and had a pic) the tabs on the cluster are labeled under the copper strips. If so that might get you started on your tracing by lifting up and looking closely.
Do some searches here first so you find the sample pic's...

Bummer...
All I can suggest is to look very close at the board contact area for each of the wires; use a magnifier. I do not remember if it is on the side your picture shows or the other side.

Each of the connections for the 12 wires on the board would have had a copper/or other metal strip that the non-existing plug contacts would connect to. Peeling the strip back exposes the name. Do you see any writing where the wires are connected to the board or on the back side of the little tab?

If anyone on the board has a cluster out...please snap a closeup picture for Hitman. Or if you remember the post...post a link, I searched but did not find it either...maybe rennlist?
Thanks,
Jon

He really needs a pic of the plug (harness) laid flat, so he can see how to match up to the PCB (Printed circuit board). Anyone that has their POD out can take a pic. My Instrument Console is finally all working correctly, so I'm not touching mine if I don't have to.

You need something like this but a closer view of both plugs. Which one is the one you need? Looks like you need the plug on the left.

Pic was stolen off Dwaynes website

I posted pics of my connectors over on Rennlist. Mine's an 82 Auto. Not sure if mine's the same as yours.

It took me seven weeks of ownership to build up the nerve.... - Rennlist Discussion Forums
