1980 early seat cloth ideas? PICS added of my FIRST set.

My son's 1980 interior is out of the car right now so I thought NOW is the time for the front seats to be recovered. I don't have the money to use one of the GREAT 928 leather guys.

Has anyone seen something CLOSE to the early seat cloth that was available. Not talking about the pasha cloth...thats WAY out of my price range. Looking more at the stripe cloth. Would love to find something close in this country.

Right now I am leaning to wards the SLATE from this manufacturer as an insert in an OB Black seat with black interior.

Thoughts?

Opine...If the cabin is black then your choice sounds fine. If the son has any color preferences in his "style" maybe add that as the insert. All Black can get quite warm inside.

I might like the midnight below the slate just to give some color, or claret to get some black and red (close Porsche color)...

Well...all I have is to finish the rear backs...just have to attach the carpets but I'm done for the day. This is my FIRST attempt on the OB seats. There is already a few things I would do different. Anyway...$300 for a sewing machine, $50 for a stapler and less than $200 for material and padding. I know my next set will be better.

I'm working free for a guy locally to learn...he has shown me a lot.

The black is a automotive quality vinyl called "Whisper" black. The inserts are done in the Slate material ( automotive quality ) in the first pic of the tread. I did steal Paul's idea and used strips in the seams.

Can you explain strips in the seams?

Between the "pillows" on the stock seats is just a seam about 3/4" wide. I sewed a strip of matching black vinyl in the valley area...I think it adds a little something and helps define the pillow pads. Paul does this sometimes with a contrasting leather color that matches a contrasting piping color...say back and cashmere. In my case I wanted cloth and vinyl similar to the early euro cars. I really have no plans of working with leather any time soon.

Damn Dean! That's a great job. I really like the color combo. I'll let you practice on my seats if that helps you become a master at it

Nice work, glad your upgrading this.
My suggestion paint the car prior to installing any interior as over spray will coat anything left in the car

Yep...the interior is being stored inside until the respray is finished. I'm recovering an extra dash and pod I had too right now while it still wants to rain every day.

Thanks guys for the compliments...I feel the next ones will be better. Once I am comfortable with what I'm doing I will see if others want the same.
