Thinking about starting a 928 based business.
This may of gotten lost in another thread. I am learning to do auto upholstery and this is my first attempt at the early seats. It is a auto vinyl and auto cloth. I tried to mimic the early euro interiors with a few extra touches. I already know I can improve my next set. Looking for cheap cores both early and late. I hope to get good enough that I can fill a gap between cheap aftermarket slip over covers that don't fit and Paul or Rob leather seats. There is a big gap there and I think a lot of folks would like to have new upholstery but the leather is just too pricey to justify......I'M NOT KNOCKING ROB OR PAUL'S work...Their work is art really. Just thought I MAY could fill a gap....thats all.
I just finished the rear seats and will upload pics of those this weekend. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1276967037.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1276967057.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1276967071.jpg |
This is still America...Go for it!

Seats
The seats look great.I know they will sell but most people may want their own seats back and that would slow you down a bit. I have 4 or 5 sets of 944 seat cores you can use if you are going to cover them also. The shops here want 1K to rework a set928 seats So I did them myself. Don'tforget sunvisors and they are easy.

I'm on board Dean. How much, and how soon? My seats could use some rejuvination.

Dean, good idea. The seat cores are works of art, good platforms for refurb.
|
It will still be a few weeks before I feel my work is good enough for anyone other than me. Price will be determined when I can have a better idea as to my time per seat. The first couple are SLOW but necessary process.
It is amazing how well the seat padding has survived once the old dry leather is removed. Its also amazing how comfortable these seats are once the harden leather is gone. It truly feels like your sitting in a brand new car. |
my two cents, say,,,,,,, sweet looking, go for it
|
Like I said, you can practice on my S4 Seats ;)
|
Dean, please update your location beyond "homeless", shipping on seats is a BIG factor.
Pretty sure Paul C made the comment that 944 seats work great for some version(s) of 928 seats. If you are close enough to SoCal I have a couple pairs of seats that qualify as cores. |
I think most of us need a guy like you. Go for it!

I'm in Columbus Mississippi right now. About 90 southwest of Birmingham Alabama.
I think the seat frame is the same...just a BIG difference in pads at the insert areas. I will have to find a set and do some work as to what can be done to convert but that may be a good idea. |

I have my son's headliner out and hope to recover it next week as well. Visor covers would look good. |
If you haven't found it already, there is a separate, supplementary seat part catalogue for all porsches within the new electronic PET files. I wonder what parts are still available from Porsche.
Would love to have my lighweight manual seats from the old 944 recovered and maybe converted to a sports seat. |
so what now your not going to tell what you do do to staple the fabric to the foam . lol. what kind stapler did you find out that staples uphost to foam? what staple, length/material?
All new fabric front / back that il be cool, of course . darn priorities. in another thread you were trying to figure what to use for a stapler to staple fabric to foam, and you had picture bostitch and made other comments in searching for stapler. what does staple into foam as you did recover them, nice too. really good job on them |
Dean-
I want to ask you a question: What is the most important factor of any dealing you have with 928 International? You've dealt with them for years, as I have. What is the most positive thing you can say about them, specifically in reference to other 928 parts businesses? In short: What makes 928 International such a good place to deal with? N PS: Your answer will be my business advice~ |

Dean, I have a pair of leather seats, poor condition, out of an '81. You are welcome to them free, you pay the shipping, and that would not be real cheap, as I am sure you know. These are power seats....the backs are not bad, the seats themselves the leather is badly worn shrunken and split. I can send you photos if you want....they are not horrible.
regards, Jim |
