1985 928S wheel polishing
the wheels on my 1985 928S look very dull. They are the standard alloys, not the chrome. Has anyone ever tried a Mothers Ball, to polish them?
Any special products that can give them a good luster? I like the style, and I love the chrome wheels, but now I just want to get these looking good! |

I read somewhere that the factory suggested rubbing Vaseline into them, wiping it off, and then buffing them well. I have not tried that yet though- bigger fish to fry.

Someone has told me, which I dont know it to be true, the standard alloys can be polished to a chrome finish but it is a lot of work. I have the chrome alloys, I use mothers and a small buffer and they come out looking like mirrors.

I know rjm65 polished his up. Whenever he stops by, I make it a point to see if it has dulled out. His are holding up very well. I believe he used an old product call Simichrome. I used to use this stuff on my BMX parts back in the day.

Mothers seemed to work pretty well for me by hand, but too much work. I have both sizes of ball and typical polishing wheel, all of which are on my list of things to try on my spare set of wheels.

Both brotha. I raced expert class from ages 13-18. Bike shop team I was sponsored by broke up so I stopped. Was gonna turn Pro too. Got into Freestyle right after that. Bought a kick arse Canondale MTB and was gonna race downhill till i thought I was Mr. jump dude like back in the day and landed on my face on a BMX track. I retired that moment.

Has anyone tried just plain old polishing compound, wax, and a buffer?

![]() Seriously, anyone tried just the plain ol' way of treating a car's finish? Compound, wax, and an electric buffer?
