Porsche Crest Fuel injector testing and cleaning

What is the best way to test the fuel injectors on a 16 valve EFI?
My injectors are currently off the car and I would like to test them for leaks/clogs/flow and clean or replace them BEFORE I reinstall them with new seals.

Send them to a known good place, good things have been said about ;

Cruzin Performance
WitchHunter Performance - Injector Cleaning & Flow Testing Services

Ultrasonic cleaning with some kind of activation and flow testing, replacing pintel caps, internal filters, orings, etc usually mean somebody that does a LOT of them and buys in bulk etc.

Is there any way I can bench test them myself? I don't have the time to send them somewhere right now.

Fire extinguisher
Pressure regulated source of fuel with a gauge.
Electrical injector tester with accurately setable rates.
Graduated cylinder to measure fuel volume.
Safe chamber to spray injector into to check pattern.

Not something I would be interested in doing a little of.

sending them out takes a matter of hrs there quick and replace rebuild all parts, then test and send you the flow-pattern graphs back three days. 100 or so thats gives the best feeling that inj are set.

toyota dealer has a can with hose off of it for cleaning inj. ??

by the time you check/replace fuel lines , noid light 5 bucks each harness connector or by the pack of inj kits and replace each brittle one 20 bucks(solder or crimp option) , ur inj would be long back.

if they are still in car fuel injector cleaner bottle , try. yrs of sitting/gunked?

new fuel injector relay or that, can be tested. SAFETY Fuel safety is definately a must, old parts. Same for all vac lines, old parts. SAFETY SAFETY

I am replacing the old injector fuel hoses (one was leaking) with standard hi pressure fuel hose cut to length and held on with fuel line hose clamps (see the picture for reference). Do the original hoses just rely on a tight fit? Both the large and small rubber seals are also being replaced, CarQuest had them, it's only $1.50 per injector.

I really just want to test for leaky injectors that would explain drivability problems.
But maybe I will try and find someone locally who can test/clean them.

I found a place near me in Agawam, Mass called Metro Fuel Injection. They are a Bosch authorized service center and they service both diesel and gasoline engine fuel injectors.
They said they charge between $20 and $22 per injector. Anyone have experience with this company or feedback on pricing?

Price sounds average. Withhunter site that Mike referenced charges less, but then you have to ship them and yours is local.

Were you having any issues with the car prior to this?

Unless it was doing something, maybe skip messing with the injectors this go round?

Well, my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo was acting up the past couple days and I'll bet they are the original injectors. I removed them and packaged them ready to ship out tomorrow June 10, 2010 Thursday to WitchHunter Performance in Washington from Sunny San Diego. It's going out USPS Priority so you can monitor how long it will take and the condition before and after.

Although they are not 928 Injectors, you'll get and idea of the $19 Cleaning and Flow Testing Process. Plus I get a Report, which I will upload for Y'all.

Here's pics of them Before

Yes I was having some issues with the car prior to removal of the injectors. If I let the car sit for ~15 minutes after getting the car up to heat, it would not start properly (misfiring, jumpy idle, and stalling). Sometimes I would have to start it several times, and give it some throttle until it cleared up. I believe this was caused by leaky injectors (I could also smell fuel on occasion when the car was not running). If I let the car sit longer and gave it time to cool down a bit, it would fire up immediately. I also had cold start problems, sometimes it would fire right up after the first crank, other times it would crank and crank, and slowly come to life, it sounded as if it was firing on just a few cylinders, then one by one the rest of the cylinders would join in. Not sure if that issue is actually injector related, maybe fuel pressure related?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, could I have a problem with my Aux Air Reg or Cold Start Injector? If so, should I have the CS injector cleaned?

Nope. CIS injectors can't be properly cleaned due to their design. Brand New Mercedes ones are about $20 each and the Original ones are about $35 each. The choice was easy for my CIS 928, I went new Mercedes CIS Injectors.

Here's my write-up plus I even threw down a video.

My 83 has this same setup, no clamps. I think that no-clamp arragement is original (although a little surprising). I'm doing the same thing (replacing the old rubber lines).

I think you misunderstood my abbreviation. I was referring to the little cold start injector seen in the attached picture. Can this valve be cleaned in a similar fashion as the other 8 (EFI) injectors?

My apologies. Any advice on the cold start valve? It gets fuel through a banjo bolt.

Awesome! Let us know if the cleaned injectors made a difference when you reinstall them.
