Hood Heat Shield Material
I have been wanting to replace the hood heat shield material on my 928s4. I have found a supplier who will sell the material to me at a savings but I must buy the material by the roll in bulk.
The material is 1/4'' Nitrile Vinyl Closed Cell Foam Rubber and is flat black in color. This material will not absorb water or oil , Also Fire retardant and washable. My question is would anyone be interested in this material at 1/2 the current market retail price. I would supply the material several inches larger than needed and you can trim and tuck to fit the hood cut outs on the 928's. The foam is glued in place and has been covered on the forum in the past. I would like to see if there is any interest before I spend several hundred dollars for a roll of the material. One vendor offers the same thing for $81.05 shipped. If there was interest I could do this for $45.00 shipped until the roll was sold. Those that know me have found out I am always looking to save a buck on things I need for my Porsche's and don't mind passing along the savings. Thanks Griffinroydonald

It's not a heat shield, but only a sound barrier - it's function has nothing to do with heat insulation. You can get one from Nicole or the other vendors for less than your sheet of material, and it will be alot nicer material with a shark picture on it.

Classic 9 Leather Shop: Hood Bonnet Liner Heat Shields
Jager Engineering - Garage9 I guess you never read the discription before posting. Thanks for your input. I am also wanting to use it as sound proof material in my Jet hydroplane boat so I don't care about pictures - only performance.

I've heard the stuff is used in HVAC and sold by most commercial suppliers of such.
Cutting it myself to fit, taking a chance it may be the wrong stuff, nope I will just wait for a sale from a regular supplier to buy it along with some other stuff I want to keep shipping costs down. |

Rob Budd up in Detroit already sells a great hood liner using the same material, I think. I have one, looks good.

I've got the same one from Classic9, (or 928 leathershop) and it fits perfect, easy install with no trimming. Beautiful decal with Porsche logo (I don't care for the "shark" one, but that's just me). I'd pay the extra just to save me some trouble and to make it look spectacular.
If one skimps on such details, I don't think a 928 is the car for said person.

I also used the one by leather shop. Looks good. All pre cut.

I think where everyone is getting at Griffin, is that it's a large piece of material and having it pre-cut to fit it's intended location is worth the higher price we pay. The added Shark or Porsche Logo is up to you to use as it comes not installed.
If I were you, I would buy it, try it and install it in your boat too. Take mega pics and then maybe someone will bite. That material is some good stuff.

To remove old liner, use PB Blaster on old glue. Use Weldwood contact cement on new liner. I just did it not long ago. Per info received here.
