Tires

My suspension is nearly fixed...I had to get the bushings, upper arm control and tie rods replaced. Haven't got a chance to driven it yet, but I plan to buy some decent tires that will perform well at high speeds and in curves/corners without making too much screeching noise. My friend recommended that I purchase Kumho Ecsta SPT 225/50ZR16 at $86.00 (prices from tirerack.com). What do you guys recommend? I don't want to break the bank for tires though....I live in the Los Angeles/Orange County area which has a lot of freeways, but I want to hit those curves faster without being scared.

Tires

I Put 225/40/ZR18 Tires on the front and 265/35/ZR18 Tires on the Rear and love them. Manufactured by Sumitomo and are HTR-Z3_m Series tires

How's the handling with those tires? How much were they? Also, isn't 16 inch standard size? How did you put 18 inch tires on your car?

he used 18 inch rims of course,

depending on year the 928 came with either 15 in or 16 in wheels as standard ,
now there are plenty of other options ,
also the 16 in tire selection is dwindling ,
so consider getting a bigger diameter set of wheels in either 17 or 18 inch.

BTW, Nice car Griff

tires

There is no side wall flex as height is cut in 1/2 . The tires ride well and have faster response in corners. I am very happy with them. Tirerack had a special on these about a year ago and I really wanted chrome. The only drawback is on rough N.C. back roads they transfer every bump to the steering wheel.
Thanks Mr Merlin, This car has been a work in progress and has been a learning experience for me. The Black 84 was bad enough and I should have known better than to start on another one !

I had Kumho Ecsta's on my GTS. In the dry the rear grip was poor to non-existent. But luckily in the wet it was even worse. No joke, I'll walk before I put Kumho's on another one of my 928's.

The Sumitomo's are a good choice for the money. But I went with General Exclaim UHP's on my last P-car. A least they still operate and make some tires here in the USA.

With a stock 16x7 wheel you should run nothing wider than 225.

Kumho's aren't bad, but you have to be careful to get the right model, which I don't recall right now. Fuzion Zr1 is very popular too.

Tires only keep there full rating for about two to three years, and I don't put a lot of miles on my 928's so I am giving serious thought to DOT approved racing tires. Not what you want in the rain, but I don't plan to drive mine in the rain, and dry grip is very close to a full on track tire. On the street they may last from 3k to 6k miles.
