Leak from transmission

Hey guys,

I currently have a drip coming from the bottom of my automatic transmission. Just recently, the car has been shifting awkwardly, almost like it can't pick which gear to shift onto. My mechanic told me that to fix that problem, it would require taking out a lot of parts and re-seal the area. Are there any quick fixes, such as a leak-stop product? Or should I just periodically refill my transmission fluid and wait until I'm really annoyed and get more funds to really fix it?

Is it dripping around the pan or somewhere else. The pan seal is notorious for leaks even new if it's not snugged up right. Shifting problems can be as simple as a loose vacuum hose or low fluid. Eliminate the simple stuff first before you fork out for a repair you might not need.

it would be helpful to include your car year and options.
There are a few p-laces the trans can leak as previously mentioned the pan gasket can leak this happens due to the sealing edge splitting from the pan bolts being over tightened. The other possibilities are the cooler fluid lines .

These leaks require the trans to come out, the front pump O ring and the Torque converter radial seal, these will noted from fluid dripping from the metal grate under the trans, and usually when its in reverse or park but not so much in drive.
At any rate you should not drive the car with the trans low on fluid as you will burn up the clutches and require a rebuild instead of simply adding fluid.

First you need to figure out whats leaking before considering adding additives

I've been driving mine with a Tranny leak for over a year now. Not the smartest thing to do but... Mine leaks down through the torque converter area, so I am thinking it's the front seal or some seal in that area, which requires me to pull the Transaxle. Not ready to do this just yet. I do monitor it and make sure it's topped off to specs at the reservoir.

As a matter of fact, I do need to recheck it before the next run.
