Not much different, I'd lean towards 83 with electronic fuel injection.

Clutch replacement is about $1700 parts only, brake job about $600 parts, shocks $400 parts, and the list goes on
so if you are paying top-dollar at $7K it had better be right. Typical 83 5 speed would bring $3 to $6K depending on condition.
Sellers are very good at hiding stuff from new buyers.

Owner says excellent condition and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks, a professional inspection is needed to actually know condition and value.

All points being equal, 83 and Ljet would be my choice, and what's sitting in my driveway. $7k is a premium price that would need verification, and not lining up well with it needing the tranny rebuilt.

BTW I don't make offers based on asking prices or sellers opinion, just what the car is worth to me.

"...he is not accepting less 7 k????" Make a cash counter-offer at least $2K lower. I'd just walk away fast - heard that "grinds" thing before, and I too have an '83 sitting in the driveway...

The cosmetics on that car look very good. This could be a very nice car. Not sure.

On cars like these that cost so very much to repair, when paying top dollar (which this is), what matters is what your inspection reveals.

If you've researched, then you know from other's accoutns what specific mechanical refurb is typically required on cars at 70 to 100K miles and so you have determined what is refreshed and what is lurking, to be triangulated against what the mechanical inspection reveals. You know the prices of the dozens of parts and your capability to fix the car or cost of mechanic. So, what is your upside and downside risk from a money perspective?

You have one thing right. Buy the best car you can.

Otherwise based on your tone and spelling and attitude you are a high school kid with summer cash burning a hole through your pocket and you haven't done a bit of research. Its a crapshoot if this will be driveable through your sr. year or not.

You picked the best looking car of the ebay/cl lot, that's for sure. And some crunching synchros is typical, but so is a lot of other more pressing maint. issues, so be careful you know what you are getting into. You won't be fixing synchros and other internal wear parts (because its not just synchronizers) on these using a paid mechanic for less than $2500, so know that going in. It will have to be liveable. Nobody here can give you any information about this car unless they've seen it.
