Early US cars used vacuum. Mine is an early Euro and has an electric motor that spins. You might be able to see it if you put your glass all the way down and remove the inside molding. If you need to get in a fix it, you'll need to remove the door panel.

Only 78/79 had vacuum locks. My '84 had a passenger door lock that was stuck and would not cycle so if you tried to lock the drivers door it would turn, then try and cycle the passenger door and when that wouldn't lock it would unlock the drivers door. Once we got the passenger lock unstuck it was all good... Good luck to you.

I had the same problem with my passenger door lock after following putting everything together after repaint. My issue was with the two "lock" fuses on top of the CE panel. I changed both of these out with new fuses and both locks work.

open the CE panel cover and look for 2 sets of red/ white stripe wires with black fuse holders.

They should be clipped to the top of the CE panel but can sometimes fall behind the panel.
These are 400ma fuses for the central door locks .
inspect both of them see if one is blown, and clean the ends of the fuses.

When my locks were acting up the drivers side door would not lock when the key was inserted into the passenger side lock. The only result I got was the passenger side lock was stuck in a continual loop of locking and unlocking until I turned the key the other way. When I inserted the key into the drivers side lock the drivers door would lock but would not lock the passenger door. I thought the motor was bad and was prepared to bite the bullet and purchase another motor until I remembered to check the fuses for the door locks. I was removing a ton of poorly wired PO work during my restoration and remembered I had a couple of "shorts" during troubleshooting. Sure enough one of the door lock fuses was popped; I replaced them both and the locks have worked ever since.

My driver door key will not lock the passenger door ('90 gt). However, after locking the pass. door with the button, I can unlock them both with the driver door key. Am I correct that fuses would not be the problem in my case? Also, dash button locks both.

Jim you dont have these fuses.
Your lock cylinder sounds like its damaged.
You can try taking it apart to investigate.
The door panel may also need to come off ,
to get to the harness.
Also look at the wire harness thats in the door sheath,
a broken wire can also cause this issue

Thanks. I know the PO had the panel off and the lock cylinder out as some repair work was done on the door skin. Suspect you are correct that something is broken/loose in there.
