First bleed the brakes, to get fresh fluid to them, then bleed the clutch, make sure you have fresh fluid in the reservoir, i suggest to use the ATE super blue racing fluid.
Then get a piece of hose about 4 feet long attach it to the LF brake caliper bleeder the other end goes to the slave nipple, with a helper push the brake pedal and open the caliper bleeder, do this till the hose fills with fluid then attach it to the slave nipple then open the slave nipple and bleed the brake . this will push fresh fluid into the clutch system all the way up to the reservoir, dont over fill it a few bleeds should put fresh fluid into the clutch system with minimum loss of fluid

gibson36, you can see the slave cylinder in this photo, as viewed from the passenger side. The slave cylinder is just opposite the starter, you can see the bleeder screw on it.

You need to start by getting a workshop manual.
This is not a camaro that you plod through. |

Opel if that picture is from your car i would suggest that you rerout the wires that connect to the starter they are not in the correct position.
One piece of road debris will quickly remove them from the starter

Gibson you asked how to bleed the clutch this is the quickest way to have successful results,
otherwise it is quite easy to go through a few liters of brake fluid with out removing all of the air in the clutch The clutch MC is just above the clutch pedal mounted to the front side of the fire wall . stick your head under the dash to see if the push rod is adjusted correctly, and that its not weeping fluid. What Chris said You need to start by getting a workshop manual. This is not a camaro that you plod through.

They are online. Do some searching, I know its been discussed a bunch.
But the key is to start reading. Lots and lots written to help you. Some here, much more on Rennlist. And if you really want to do yourself a favor, get the CD set for $75 from Rog100. This contains WSM, parts lists PET, and more importantly dozens of technical descriptions and updates that are far more valuable than the WSM. |

I have seen cars blow 1-4 racing and speed shifting but never 5th ?

you may have to adjust the shifter.
there is a 13mm bolt that clamps the shifter rod to the flexible joint, its just above the front of the transaxle, with the shifter in neutral loosen the bolt, Then have a helper hold the shifter centered and then tighten the clamp bolt

just a note if your having problems with the car,
it would be best to post a question that gives as much info as possible about what is or is not working and what the last few things are that you fixed, this will let others know how to offer assistance

I generally have to release air from the clutch master from inside the car, unclipping the retaining ring at the firewall and letting part of the piston enter the passenger compartment, burping out the air, then quickly re-seating and re-clipping it.
Might not work for an old cylinder if rusty inside. |

Ah, thanks for catching that Mrmerlin, I have been meaning to post a question about that but could never remember to do so. So the wires go above the swaybar and ontop of the steering rack undertray? Do you think I will need to remove the starter to accomplish that?

Opel, no to removing the starter.
But yes to removing the wires from the starter, make sure the wires dont rest on the sway bar. as the the bar moves when the car is in motion , and will rub through the insulation and cause a major short as usual disconnect the battery first

thanks again, I knew something wasn't right, as the PO had the wires zip-tied to the bottom of the starter.
