winshield washer
Hi guys, having problems with my winshield washer, when pulling lever i dont get any washer fluid. any ideas. thanks Ed.

open the hood and check that line has not come off on the base of the hood at the right side. next would be to see if you filled the tank ,
Next would be to remove the tank and remove the metal collar in the tank and the fill tube , these collars will rust and fill the tank with rusty water that will clog the washers, the pumps are able to be taken apart and cleaned also wash out your washer tank to remove the rusty deposits

IF after doing all that Stan suggests in the post above, it still doesn't work, use a needle and very gently clean the nozzles on the hood. Then try the washers again. Good Luck!

Hi again, i pulled the washer hoses that goes to the hood and pulled the lever no fluid coming
up there, checke fuses and relay look good. i think my washer motor is not working,were is the location of the motor and a picture if any one has one. thanks Ed. |

Jack it up, take off the right front wheel. Run your left hand on the fenderwell til you find three rubber nipples. Thats your pump.
The reservoir is in the fender towards the passenger door. Join rennlist (free registration) so you can see pictures linked there. You need the manuals, too, to tackle this car. This writeup kind of sucks, but you might get something from it. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/928-forum/484263-washer-fluid-tk-clean-remove-rusty-fittings-pump-repair.html Post #8 shows the inside of the little gear pump for your windshield washers. Pay close attention to the comment about the o-ring. BTW, by coincidence, I have another system from another 84 Euro completely disassembled and being cleaned tonight.

Cheap.
And also, the pump on the intensive washer, if installed, is exactly same as the windshield washer pump. Sometimes they are in better shape. Either just use that reservoir / pump, or recover the pump to move it to the inside of the fender to operate from the big reservoir.

Main issue is that most Porsche owners refuse to spray washer fluid on their cars. Mechanics refer to the washer tanks as algae farms, because they get so little use.
Fixing the whole system right, pulling and flushing all the tanks etc., is a big job and not cheap once you start replacing motors and tubing etc. I still haven't decided if I am going to do it, or maybe just remove it. |

This one certainly is an algae tank. Smelled like a sewer trap actually. I think the only parts I need will be the hose for the headlight washers, though. And a new or used level indicator. Will see once I get the windshield pump out. The last one I cleaned still works.

The big tank has a metal section that is only good for rust and should be removed. Working pumps is a bit lucky.

Well, both the tank and the funnel tube apparatus have a nominal 3/4 inche steel pipe nipple inserted to reinforce the hose connection that links them. Its not necessary. Remove what's left of the nipples and clean it up and it should be fine.
With the bumper cover off you have complete access to the headlight washers and the splitter/regulator that joins the two of them. I bought 3/8" thread reinforced vinyl hose at Home Depot last night to link it all together. Should be OK. The red one in the pictures above is working fine. Its really not that bad or complicated, try fixing it.
