Falken Tires on a 928

I just wanted to know if anyone has used Falken tires on there 928. I'm thinking of getting the 912's in 225/60/15 for my phone dial wheels. There is not alot of choices in this tire size. So I was hoping to get some feedback from users of this tire on a 928. All the reviews for this tires are from Toyota's, Honda's ect.... and Buick LOL. Thx for any feedback

I thought 50's were the stock size for the 15's? 225/50/16 on my PD 16's

Leo, if the tires are going on 15 inch rims VS. 16" why wouldn't he need more sidewall?

225/60/15 sounds fine, although didn't the 15" PD's come with 215 tires?

Owning a 928 is risky business - but sometimes you just gotta say "what the fudge".

I am not real sure of the 15's. Just saying my 16's came with 50 series tires. 50's are lower profile (less sidewall).

Here's a seller on eBay selling 15" PD's with a tire. Maybe a quick email to him as to what the tire size is that is mounted in the pic will yield the answer.

The owners manual for 1978 says 225/50 VR 16 for manual transmission and 215/60 VR 15 for automatic transmission.

Yes the phone dials I have are the 15" type, and the sidewall calles out for a 60. I like the size of the 225 on the car verses the 215's. I have run 225 for years on this car. My car is a 1981 USA. I know that you can run a 50 series on the car because that is what I have had on it for a long time. I just wanted to return to the 60 so the speedo reads accurate again. What I'm really looking for is some reviews of the Falken tires 912's
Thx

The 1st review I saw was a negative one. It said they hydroplane easily.

Grooves look narrow so i can see that happening.

I have Dunlop Direzza Z1's and they are badass. Wide Grooves too.

MPDano, do they have that Dunlop in a 15" wheel, that is the main issue for the tires. Just not a huge selection for tires in the performance range. It's funny I remember when 16"s where thought of as huge wheels. LOL I like the Dunlops I have used them for alot of years too. I will look that tire up to see if I can find one in my size. Just checked and no they don't have a 225/60/15 in that tire.

But if you run the same sidewall (60) on a wider tire, your speedo is still going to read inaccurately

The difference in circumference between the two will be +1,88%, so at 100 mph, your speedo only reads 98..

You have another option of going with 55 profile on the 15's (-1,64%) but with 225 it's always going to read inaccurately.

So are you saying that the only way to have the speedo accurate is to use the stock tire size a 215/60/15 otherwise the ratio is going to be off?

guys I use this all the time
Tire Size Calculator - Discount Tire Direct

I spoke with a buddy who sells Falkens. He said they are a decent average tire. Nothing to get excited about but it's not crap either.

Thanks Pete R that is a great tool! I understand a little better now on the ratio thing. Running 225/60/15's would get my speedo within 1mph and that is acceptable to me. I just have to think about the falken's a little more. What else are people with the 15 inch wheels running?

sorry hi jack

Mpdano, what's on that for wheels? They seem to be the wrong offset upfront. They stick way out of the body work. Are you gonna shred the tires on bumps? Looks like a 4 x 4

I'm using Bridgestone re760's. I love them. Decent treadwear, average grip and nice and quiet. They were well under $200 each too. What I really like is the are asymetrical and not directional. I will be able to swap them from side to side and essentially rotate them with out unmounting them.

Yeah, some Ghetto Wheels on it. It's a 928S I am looking at. Those would be the first to go on Craigslist.

falken = bridgestone /////// fuzion (there japan made high performance line called it fuzion) and sumitomo = dunlop that said

corning- see pic above for ex. the falkens edge is rolled into a turn ( grand touring style) , dunlop(though this dunlop not so much but any tire with more edge) edges into a turn (straight stiffer ride). All on the driver preference there.

weather- narrow tire and tread rain snow?. quietness - why are some tires noisy? related to tread pattern and sidewall, or material/technology used ? or both?

grip/traction - it would be noticeable wear/mileage on tires that compound make up is the gummy stick to the road type. ex. tourenzo revo technology, wear fast.

michelin orig equipment for 928s prob was more rounded edge as grand touring car, correct?.

Fuzion = Bridgestone, Falken = Sumitomo, Dunlop = 75% goodyear, 25% Sumitomo.

I have the 205 Falkens on my N/A 944. They wear fast, and after two years they started to dry rot.. But Besides that I really like them.
