A new 928 fanatic-

"Renee" is a man from Quebec who visits Florida this time each year. He stays at his cousin's house, a man named Jean Gille, but who goes by the name "Chip". Chip lives next door to me.

Chip, 70 years old, likes to take a trip to Thailand each year. I was surprised this year, because Chip physically has gone down hill. Two years ago Chip was fairly spry, but this year he walks much more slowly, and had to give up a chihuahua dog because it to much trouble to keep.

[I don't think about what Chip is doing in Thailand.]

In any case, Renee, a Quebecois....is staying for a month in Chip's house. Renee is about 55, and he, to this point...has been a Corvette fanatic. Well, sometime during the last year, he has developed a SERIOUS case of 928 MANIA, and the first thing he did when he arrived in Fort Lauderdale is to come to my house and ask to see my 928! Of course, he wound up driving it, and folks- we have a new 928ist!

This guy is building a 60 X 60 garage in Quebec, and he's installing a hydraulic lift. He is installing a two post lift with 7000 pounds of capacity, and the ceiling is 28 feet tall in the middle. The MOMENT he said that I grabbed his arms, and said:

"Is there any way at all that you could possibly move in next door? Could you convince Chip to move to Thailand permanently, and then you can build a giant 928 garage right next door?"

Well, my dream. A garage full of 928's with a lift and a bunch of air tools. Right next door-

Hell, I'd spring for a keg in that situation!

Anyway, I gave him Nicole's book about purchasing a 928. I gave him my Project 928 books too. Get this-

Last night Renee was up until 4 am reading "Project 928"! He rang my doorbell at 9 am, and wanted to look at my car! Folks, this guy is 100% hooked! I told him about the hand-built nature of this car: he knew it. I told him it was designed by Anthony Lapine and Wolfgang Mobius- he knew it! I felt like I was giving him an oral exam of the Porsche 928 car.

In conversation, I have heard from him that he prefers the pre-S4 body. He wants a 32 valve car, and I have explained to him in detail the difference between the '86 and the '86.5 cars.

He came over this morning, tapped on my door. It was 9 am, he was very appologetic.

"Can I please sit in your 928?"

Teh heh heh!

Folks, we have a new compatriot!

N!

NOW...we need to find him a car. A 32 valve car from '85 or '86, preferably an '86.5. He's obviously not poor, and told me that he wanted to look at many cars before he bought one. He likes my black 928, something that I advised him to avoid, but he wants one nonetheless. I told him to look at eBay, and gave him the various websites. I even gave him a link to that Porsche-based website that starts with the letter "R".

Bettering the hobby...as always.

N!

Sounds like he is fully hooked already. Perfectly understandable.

Seems like a guy that can build a 60 x 60 garage with lifts... well, I'm thinkin GTS. There's all those "toy stores" down in Florida with Ferrari's and Lambo's , they gotta have one just cluttering up the lot that they want to unload

GREAT! Always nice to have a new 928 CONVERT! We already know how great they are...

BTW, we need more 928 Owners Club members in FL, we are going to make a concerted effort this year to get things going down there! It has been far to quiet for all you 928 owner Floridians! You guys could have a hell of a group with just a little effort!

SOOOO, if you live in FL and have NOT joined the 928 Owners Club please consider doing so! "Roadside assistance program" getting rolling (really just a list of enthusiasts that you can contact if you have a break down during a trip, Tech Tips area (utilizing much, if not all, of the great Dwayne's write ups as well as some others not found elsewhere), plus you get a nice T-shirt and a license plate trim ring and other goodies when you renew!
