Tuesday my hopefully partless donor car goes to scrap

Wonders of condo living, my association decided to do a major wood replacement project requiring the front half of my garage to be cleared out, so my red 84 Euro parts car will have the last bits removed this weekend and the bare chassis (I hope) will get hauled off to scrap Monday or Tuesday. I looked at it closely today for the first time in months, and yipes, can't believe how much is left to remove. Drive line has been gone for years, and I have been picking at it, but now that I have a hard date for it to go, all those little bits still need removing.

Should be an educational weekend as I learn what does and does not come off easily.

Hey mike

How much do they give you for an empty shell...?

Is it from this car that I purchased the 84 transmission that's been sitting on my garage floor for the two years?

I still haven't installed it, but I plan to do the swap it this spring....

Then you should invite BB500 over to your Condo. Didn't he have his parted and cut up in small pieces with 2 weeks?

Will take some picts when I go back out in a few minutes.

Yep this is the 84 Euro the AT came out of. BTW that tranny has TWO rare and valuable things, 2350 instead of 1950 stall converter, and I think 2.39 differential.

BB isn't a parts pack rat like I am, I will be removing just about anything that isn't welded on, and limited by that only due to time, was going to cut the welds and take off the roof for practice.

Nobody I have found will pay for hauling away scrap metal that isn't better than mixed steel, but I did find two on Craigslist that claim free haul away and same day pickup. I've been told many end up paying as much as $150 to haul a chassis away.

Took the pictures, too lazy for the moment to put them on the PC and upload, but I will. Worked all last weekend and Monday and Tuesday nights, still lots to go, hoped for rain but Wednesday morning was clear skys, but construction supervisor said just push it out into the street in front of his truck and nobody would notice it, so I did.

Front half of my garage did get cleared out, so I have some room to work, and with a little luck and labor from my son we should have things moved around so the side with the lift is clear enough to put the donor 928 in the air and get the last parts off, then NEXT Tuesday it goes to scrap.

Evening fun today was taking a door apart. Glad I don't need to know how to put it back together yet.

Living in the modern world -

Hey Danglerb, Those association boards can be a real pain sometimes. A few years ago a buddy was one of the first families to move into a small community outside of Houston expecting to enjoy more of a slower paced country style of living. Much later the area voted in a Community Association Board to “regulate, improve and monitor” the neighborhood. It sounded reasonable at the time so there was little opposition to the initial proposal, but it has turned into a tit-for-tat running battle between factions as each group retaliated for perceived favoritism.

When he wanted to buy a pre-built 6x8 foot wooden storage building for his lawnmowers, etc.. it took over a month and four rounds at the U.N. before he was finally given the OK. The compromise required that he hire a contractor to build it on-site. Evidently a couple of the new comers to the area could see the roof of the proposed outbuilding over my friends fenced in backyard. The joys of living in the modern world.....

One of the best parts of stripping down a chassis is to see how everything goes together and the massive collection of metric bolts that you’ll come way with. Good Luck on your dis-assembly project -

Michael

HOA's....some of my favorite folks. In this neighborhood association they have recently enacted a $500 "permit to build" fee for anything...fences, utility buildings, decks, patios, etc etc. Of course it is non refundable, so if they don't approve your plan, they keep the fee.... and they also have put in place the "no prebuilt buildings" clause. Also, if more than 100 sq ft, the building has to be on a concrete slab, on and on and on...

It could be worse, parts of The Woodlands, just up the road from here, requires all cars to be in the garage, and doors closed, at night. Nothing parked in the driveway overnight. I would be in big trouble, 4 cars with a 3 car garage, a garage that is full of tools and other stuff anyhow....

Idon't know how an auto collector/enthusiast could make peace living in a condo unless you own or rent another building. Too much scrutiny and required conformity.

Everything you need to know about government you can learn by living in a HOA.

OTOH its very easy to ignore the good parts, which I am sure I will discover some day.
