drive and fog lights (early models)
I have a ROW 1982 model, which has the fog and drive lights in the reversed position (Fog on the outside )
The fogs seem to have a stronger beam than the drive lights Question; On USA models,What are the brightest /best lights/ throw the best beam? Fogs or drive? |

on the US model the running lights are on when the HLS is in park position or higher,
or the TS is on and the key is off, the bulb for the running lights is a simple 1156 single fil bulb, the foglamp is a Halogen and comes on when the fog switch is turned on, The ROW have better lighting with the driving lamps providing better down the road lighting

Thanks,I've broken a lens on a ROW "drive" light , I was wondering if I might get more down the road light if I substituted the pair for US spec fogs, giving me 4 fogs across the front bar.
The ROW fogs are bright, but when I took one apart I noticed that there is a plastic diffuser under the glass.(ROW also have a small park light in there as well-just visible top left of photo) Questions, Better brighter light with the diffuser removed? ( fit higher output bulbs?) Do the US fogs have this diffuser behind the glass? ![]() |

I don't remember that on my ROW or USA.
What country are you in?

Australia. The pic is of a R/H side fog,
both left and right fogs have the inner plastic difuser, These lights have a good range with it in place, but being plastic I think I would be wise to remove if fitting higher power bulbs. The low power marker light in the US model looks to have an identical casing, to this but a different lens. |

I just removed the plastic thingy on my two driving lamps!
I looks better both on and off, and gives a much brighter beam without blinding anyone. Don't know why Porsche put them in there in the first place?

my 78 euro had diffusers. the glass lens are shorter width and taller than usa, like 1/2 inch. On the glass lens (bottom) use the set of 928 ... ... 381,2,3,4? to replace, lighting unit should have a number set too, Just to be sure someone hasnt been switchen them.
I had a bunch if/when you know post number or pm me if i have one , happy to help out. |

Thanks, but have bought a pair of US fogs off the net, should arrive in next few days, I'll put up some pic's of differences if any to the ROW drive lights.
(Riber, thanks for info,I will remove the plastic diffusers from the ROW fogs.) Should have good light with 4 fogs- pity, we don't even get fog where I live ![]() |
