Cam Cover (Cylinder head Cover) removal

I have a slight oil leak on the bottom of the cover gasket. How difficult is it to remove the cover(s) and replace the gaskets? I would think all the gaskets need to be replaced at the same time.

How hard can it be? I see 32V engines powdercoated all the time. If it was really that hard, I think there would be a lot less Intake Powdercoating posted.

Also, while your in there, why wouldn't you replace "all" gaskets that are affected during the Cam Cover removal/reinstall.

Well, I could not find the procedure in the manual I have. Yes, I would replace all the gaskets as one is also leaking around a plug hole at the rear.

Yes, the reason us 32 valve owners powder coat is that when our belts go and we pull the engine to fix the heads, it is easy then.

Its not too bad a job, but there is a good bit of disassembly.
Pick the right height so that you aren't leaning over all the time but still have access.
Good time for new plug wires. Else care not to nick the ones you have.
Having an accurate inch-style torque wrench is a good idea.

The 85 car is more treacherous due to the potential of breakage of the oddball studs used.
Its a little less likely to happen on the 86.

Thanks. I read it can be a bit tirckey. Something about bolts breaking. The leak seems to have let up so I may let it go until later. I did just buy a nice 1/4" drive clicker torc wrench for up to 200 inch pounds. I will have to order gaskets and all yet. Original plug wires still look good.
