Early Axles
Anybody have the very early axles with removable, flanged outer stub shafts?

Could be of interest to you if you are planning to retro fit these into later hub carriers.
Apparently the later half shafts that incorporate the stub are a drop in fit to earlier type hub carriers ,( models that ran separate hub/halfshafts.) but........... always a but! it does not work the other way arround,( early stubs into later hub carriers).They bottom in the carrier before they are fully in and the surface of the hub that has the bolt ends coming through locks onto the carrier.Should you be contemplating this swap,You will need to machine the rear of the later type carrier, or fit a spacer on the hub shaft. Found this out when retro fitting eary hubs, (I was fitting custom half shafts that run plunge CV's both ends) |
