11 or 12 inches, best I can tell.
This link has very good pictures. If you can't see them, you might have to signup for rennlist, another forum that that has its own advantages and disadvantages. SharkSkin - Shark Attack Round Thirty - Clutch, Torque Tube, Transaxle - Torque Tube Hopefully you are using the Constantine Black Sea Engineering bearings for the car. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/928-forum/495798-bsr-and-d-928-super-bearing-and-clamp-photos-pricing.html

Hi
many thanks, thats a brilliant link. My front bearing has gone walkabouts towards the centre and is now 25" from the front (hence the vibration at 5000 rpm) ! I intend to add another bearing into the front end to support the shaft again - subject to obtaining another bearing ? On a 1990 Gt Manual, will the torque tube come out without removing the gearbox ? Last edited by johntom; 05-10-2011 at 02:23 PM.. |

Hi
yesterday I managed to obtain another torque tube, which I have now taken to bits thanks to the link provided. Interestingly the tube had the 6" bearing/support (which i thought was the centre support?) at the gearbox end and 2 normal bearings, 1 in the middle and 1 at the front, is this normal ? 1 of the bearings/carriers looks to be good so i will try and fit it to my existing tube when i have moved the gearbox back etc. I will report back with some pictures soon. |

Hi
Yes it's the vibration damper and it was a good fit in the tube (the replacement tube). I will have a look at my Gt tube today. |

Counting from front of car, should be between brgs 2 and 3 according to everything I read.
On a GT, if I possibly could afford it, I'd want the Constantine bearings and would leave the dampener out. Probably stretch your timeline out a ways due to shipping though.

Here's a couple of pictures showing where the front bearing was on my car.
![]() ![]() and one with the extra bearing going in. I managed to move the gearbox back enough to allow the torque tube clamp to be removed and the new bearing seated in place. I used a combination of a short length of 3" plastic pipe, a thin length of wood and a lump hammer to knock the bearing in. ![]() I will report back when I have reassembled and test driven. |
