carpet smell gone...

I have been struggling with the carpet smell, which is a combination of 27 years of old carpet smell mixed in with moisture, mice droppings, and a million small pieces of what looks like yellowish horse hair from the carpet underside.

Last night I pulled out most of the carpet and padding and ran the vacuum to cleanup the car... After work today I went back into the car for a quick drive and noticed that the smell was pretty much gone----lesson learned, I should have done this three years ago....!!!!!

Don't forget the carpet kit also includes the Tool Kit Cover carpet, as well as the carpet on the lower part of the Door Panels. The install is a bear and very time consuming. Be prepared to spend a few weekends doing it.

carpet kit pain...

Yes, I will be prepared for extreme pain, or extreme payment of services.., but it's last on the list. I am looking forward to these smaller/easier fixes that I can do myself this summer-- AC, three gauge radio panel, gas tank hose, etc...

Excellent choice, removing it.

I've installed a Rob Budd velour kit in one car.
Wasn't that bad, still have a few of the ancilliary pieces to finish.
It feels like a new car.

Isn't it a great thing to have that car running well?

Depending on the symptoms of your AC issue, it most likely will need help of a Pro. What going on with your AC Al?

Oh BTW, I wasn't referring the Pro part to me. I have an absolute honest and inexpensive guy here locally that did AC stuff on both my 928's. Still blowing freezing cold.

I'm assuming the answer is VERY but, how much louder is it in your car after removal of said stinky carpet? I'm thinking about doing the same to my 928.

You really don't have much of a choice on yours but to pull it.
The answer is not much louder at all, and that's far less of an issue than the smell and health hazards.

Carpet & AC

Yes, there isn't much of a sound difference without carpet, and yes the potential health hazards are there when you have mice dropping and mold- good riddance smelly carpet...

Leo, the ac pump doesn't seem to fire up, Though i do get air through the vents. I need check to see if it's getting power, check the fuse, etc.. Once I have verified that the main system is up I will call the reasonably priced AC place on el cajon you referenced earlier. Will that shop diagnose my AC from end to end...?

I will need help with locating a minor engine leak. Perhaps one free weekend I can stop by your place., The schedule is full now...

Later,

Yes, you can jumper the sensor switch at the Drier and see if this makes your Compressor Clutch kick in. Of course Ac must be turned on. Do this briefly just to see if there is freon/oil in the Drier (sight glass on top). If you see some fluid moving in there, than chances are it's just low like mine was. My AC guy did a evac, then recharge with r132a and oil for about $140. Cost was for the R12 to R134a adapter too. He also checks for leaks after charging to make sure. Mine was good to go.
