post a better pic of your engine. 78's have CIS injection. Do you mean the fuel distributor? Its a black octogon type thing that all the fuel line attach to.

78 is CIS a non electronic mechanical system of pressure regulation and continuous fuel flow. The 82 (US) is electronically regulated with injectors that open and close to meter the fuel rate. Not much in common that isn't pretty obvious.

BTW a CIS system thats been sitting even sitting apart pretty likely will need rebuilding before putting it back together. CIS does not like old fuel or any contamination, and the seals don't like being dried out.

Your good to go on this area. Just the Air Box sits over that. You just have a long screw that comes in from the top of the Body of the Intake Spider. You'll need to start snapping more pics in order for us to tell what is missing or not.

You need to vacuum the butterfly flap and clean the top of the engine besides all the guidance you will be getting. I see nice little bits on it that I wouldn't want in the engine.

i was trying to put in the starter i got from a 928 parts car. i have four wires that all go to the starter. the main big positive cable coming from the battery, a red big cable, not sure where it's coming from and two other small red cables. and does it motor which way the starter mounts? or will it spin the motor the wrong way if it's put in incorrect?

The hose in the previous pic (next to the water fill) goes into the underside of the air-box (I believe you don't have).

I'll try to get back with starter info.

The Big Red (comes from the ALT B+) and the main BAT cable join at the 30 post (BIG one top side of your pic).
There is/should be a black/yellow (the smallest gage) wire that attaches to 16 comes from 14 pin (pin 10), middle post.
There is a Yellow (with age it looks brown dirty red) larger wire that comes from14 pin connector (at pin 14) attaches at the lowest point.

You will be able to mount it with the solenoid under driver.

Seems like your in put it together and see if it runs mode, and this car needs take it apart, clean, and replace first.

Stranger things have happened, you just "might" get it to fire up, but just fire is more likely, or smoke, melting insulation on wires, then fire. After that its not a project anymore, just parts.

+928 on that - the engine area is a mess - do as Danglerb says, or we will be seeing your next post as - parts car - fire damage!

and im also trying to deal with this problem, it's could be the reason im not getting anything else electrical working. the guy put this "push button thing to avoid using the key to start the car which doesn't seem to be working.

Do you have experience troubleshooting complex auto wiring and FI systems? That looks like a major hack, and you need to get, read and understand the wiring diagrams.
We are here to help you, follow what we tell you and it may even run, eventually.
Get better pictures, it looks like the lug from the battery in the previous picture is not connected correctly - you are asking for a major electrical burn up if you don't connect everything right, and trying to find out if it will at least run is a big no-no.

no sir, i lack in trouble shooting wires. i've been reading wiring diagrams about these cars and it's been the hardest thing i've had to learn.
