New 928 owner-need help

Hey guys, I just switched from a 944 to a 928, and boy do I love it! I am having a couple problems. Well, the first is the sprayers that clean the light. Mine leak all day long. You would not believe it, but I swear that it is leaking antifreeze. I do not know why it is doing it. I just bought the car yesterday, so some dumb ass probably thought the windshiel resivour was for coolant. Any ideas? Also, my cooland light came on. what souhld I fill it with? Thanks!

Take the squirters and point them into the coolant reservoir!

Just kidding!

Open the reservoir and see what's in there. If you have doubts, capture the fluid, and just get rid of it. Sounds like the PO might have been a dolt.

Are you sure that it's the squirters leaking? If you have low coolant, and it looks like a coolant leak, then I'd say you might have a broken hose or something along those lines...

water follows the path it wants to conquer

Just an observation after 11 years of 928 ownership. I think you have a coolant leak. Make sure you put in distilled water and a low phosphate no silicate antifreeze. (read the labels). I would also clean everything up so you can spot the leak easier. Then when you get that fixed replace every fluid in the car. From headlight washer, winshield washer, Motor oil, trans oil/ fluid, BRAKE fluid, Power steering Fluid. You can leave the air in the tires just add to which ever one is low. You may want to check wheel bearing for looseness which gives you a reason to repack them.
Don't forget the filters for each including the power steering.
If this P.O. was a dolt (good one) then it is safe to bet he didn't know there was such a think as service to cars.

Well, I flushed out the washer tanks a couple times. No more antifreese anywhere. The manual said to add some to the washer solution so it does not freeze, maybe he over did it. Well, no visible leaks, exept for an oil leak. My car has been driven 1,000 miles in the past 4 years. Any leaks that form if a car is rarely driven?

Just drive it more

You will find out that the more you drive your car the better it will run the less it wil leak. THE MORE YOU WILL SMILE. Most of the seals have a tendancy to shrink a little through non use. Some times it will heal itself through normal driving.

Glad to hear your water leaks are fixed.

When you change the oil, in my humble opinion (IMHO), avoid synthetic oil...it will likely bring forth new leaks from your old seals and gaskets.

Everyone: what's the best way to track down a coolant leak?

There is a flouresent dye to help detect oil leaks. Can you use it in the coolant as well?
