Oil light

I have not had my 928 long, so i am in the process of getting used to it, and working out some of the minor cosmetic kinks, but i am not very engine savvy. I was driving yesterday, and i noticed the " ! " light in the center cluster would flash very quickly. If i looked quick enough i could see that the oil light on the bottom right would flash at the same time, but so fast you can barely see it. I checked the oil, and It says i have plenty. Upon a little bit more driving, i notice it only comes on when i accelerate quick sometimes, and when i cut the wheel quick and hard. I noticed the lights when taking turns, so i experimented, and a quick jerk of the wheel will trigger the light... Any ideas? possibly just a finicky sensor? at least i am hoping so..

Yep, begin with inspecting/verifying your oil level and oil pressure sending units.

How's your oil pressure overall? Are you using a good thick oil?

thanks for the replu .., i have not changed the oil yet myself, I got this at a dealership two weeks ago. I actually called the guy who sold me the car, and asked him to ask the mechanic what kind of oil they used. He said he would get back to me on that ( in case i needed to add ) I checked the manual for oil recommended oil, I live in Connecticut, so the car will sit in the winter, what oil would you suggest

Sound Weird but check all the Grounds everywhere and the Power Wire on the battery as well as the Battery leads ( are a bunch of Grounds under the hood )
I Would also Check the Ground on the Central warning System under the dead pedal Driver's side Foot Pedal > and remove and clean the connection ( wires hook up ) on both sides and re hook it up and test. That ! Light get's It's Signal from that Box / Connection.
If you remove the Box and are savvy you can Slide Out the 2 boards inside ( they well be tight so slow and easy ) and Inspect / Clean them . Starting Fluid and Compressed Air work Good > Brass Brush cleans the Connections well but Blow them out with Air. If This Fails Try the wires to the Oil Pressure sender to see if they are clean and Tight < > post what you did so far. ( Oil Pressure Sender is behind the Alternator on the Motor Block. )

These guys are right. Begin this process as if the car won't run, and has multiple problems. Start with verifying/scrubbing/replacing grounds. Don't do any troubleshooting until you know for certain ALL of your grounds are solid. Apply this to every problem you encounter in your 928. It will save you tremendous headache and time.

My personal mantra:
"Don't troubleshoot until you have good grounds."

On my 83 the oil sender has two circuits. One to the light, one to the gauge. My light was coming on, scaring the heck out of me, but the gauge looked good. I replaced the sender and the problem was fixed, seems one side of the sender was not functioning as it should.

Also, I used Mobil-1 15W50 in my car for quite some time with great results, I also have used Amsoil 20W50 in the past and the shop just added that during a recent timing belt change. Oil of this type is specified in your manual. I prefer seeing the oil pressure up when the car is hot and at idle, and the thicker oils like these will help.\

Good luck.

Paul
