Interior Idea

Here is my new plan. I am thinking about pulling out all of my interior due to it being in a non-refurbish-able state. I will pull out the dash and center console, fill the cracks with bondo and repaint it black. Everything else will be removed from the car. No carpet, rear seats, quarter panel stuff...nothing. Once i get everything out, i will sand and clean everything then apply some type of black bedliner. Then i will install a new Autopower race roll bar, a Schroth 5/6 point harness, and a Sparco Chrono Road seat.

Does anybody have any hints, tips, clues, objections, or ideas about what i am planning on doing? Any thoughts on the brands and models of things i have picked out?

My Tip for you is:

1) Do it!

2) Take Mega Pics!

3) Stop Reading this and start!

Just remember that the price you pay for the racing stuff is enough to buy a complete used interior and new carpet kit and good seats.

yeah, but thats a LOT of work and i want new stuff. i am tired of sitting in a "used-mobile"....if that makes sense.

plus i would only have to rip out the old stuff and put in a few new things as opposed to pulling out the old stuff and putting in better condition old stuff.

welcome to the mind of an 18 year old.

If thats the way you want to roll (permanent like) -- Your own tv show called the batchelor p928. oiyh sounds comfy. i know some people whose pcar are driven like this and with so little in it, they start to look for parts and pieces again to put it back.

im with landseer after time you could want to do both double monies by then. U have the blue (new painted, yes?) thought u wanting to get it to daily driver, yes? u showed interior pics unfortunately yeah its bad , (blue inside too, yes? ) finding replacement sometime not in much better shape after shelling out monies to make it better, but you probably have more there useable vac, wash, cleanup, repair, things. see if you can buy yards of vinyl/leather (15/yd) find a seamstress(labor), take 4 bolts remove seat and have em redone?. walmart/auto shops covers (30)?
Its a closed confined space to be working and making things happen in there but itll come together. Show ur pic of interior again, please? if you have carpets, quarterpanels, pillers, headliner, trunk tool piece... all the hard vinyls and soft stained or black marked up , wear n tear, it can be all refreshed evened up and look great with any spray dye paint (duplicolor vinyl fabric spray 6/can). any of the leather pulling /peeling can un screw un clip, warm sun manipulate use 3m adhesive spray cans ($) or can of rubber cement reglue rescrew it down better. carpet untucked or glue lifted spray some glue redo. If you gut it save it in case.

the only thing that isnt messed up beyond repair is the front two seats, the steering wheel, the headliner and the sunroof cover thing. thats it. everything else is SUPER messed up as in broken plastic, massive amounts of foam gone, cracks, splits, peels, discoloration everything you can think of. ill take some pics of the interior tomorrow and post them up... its raining hard right now.

I like the idea. I mighnt do the interior a solid white paint or something rather than bedliner.. it's so permanant if you don't like it or it comes out wrong you screwed. You could do some real thin alum panels inside. I'm not familar with your roll bar but be carefull if you cage it. I was auto xing in my 951 and did this almost spin tank slapper. I nailed my head on the cage. I was belted, wearing a helmet, with a padded bar so it was funny. I may have been unconcious with no helmet and unpadded cage.

I just pulled out the back carpet in my 928, I taped off the the whole rear, and sanded out the battery well, and recessed area where the wheel sits. On top of the gas tank is a rubberized coating that is painted. I believe they used this under the carpets also, I was fortunate enough to be able to pop this coating off in large chunks with little effort. I did a quick sand, and taped off the whole rear of the car, and used a aerosol spray undercoating and re sprayed the whole back interior. my whole reason for doing so was the rust beginning to form inside the battery well. I will snap a few pic if interested.

I've got one like this. Shredded seats. Interior stripped. All soundproofing gone, and have pretty much cleaned the surfaces down to the underlying paint.
Plan was racing seats, maybe a cage, and painting the interior white. Saw another car like this , with diamond plate on floor. Looked good.

Then I found a pair of very nice S4 seats, light blue, for $200!
Used leather paint to make them black. (use 944, 911 or boxter seats if you have to)

Washed a few large pieces of carpet that was taken from another car. Installed them.

Now I feel so much better about it, I want to continue, but with all new carpet.
Might even put the rear seats back in!

It would be OK as a racing interior, but that takes more money. And no woman is going to want to ride in a ricer/racer interior.

I'm pretty sure I have seen a track car done with a bedliner interior. looked ok for a trackcar, really extra work though.

I doubt it. Bedliner like in trucks is probably at least 1/4 inch thick and rugged as hell. Its made to drop cement bricks in truck beds with out damage. Its great stuff. but I like where your idea is headed

I have been trying to find a pic for you but can't. It was a 928 racer and the interior was gutted and then sprayed white. It looked cool.
