Much thanks Michael. Let's see how my plans go first. I'm going to run the Regular Gas out, then I'll have the new Cat installed (I already have it), then fill with Premium then get my Free re-test.

Got it man. We are all pulling for you.

I have never met an AFM car I couldn't get through smog. but I am absolutely clueless about CIS.

Regarding my desert place, there is a local garage that has a sniffer set-up to do pre-smog fiddling. They are not a smog station. I wonder if there is such a place near you?

MPDano 09-01-2011 03:51 PM

...then try throwing in a 82 US Engine to an 81 Euro. Get's ugly real fast :(

Danglerb 09-02-2011 04:56 PM

Time to put a Euro S motor in that one Leo ...

Actually I think it needs another look over, and maybe some sniffer time and tuning.

MPDano 09-02-2011 08:06 PM

Well come on down Mike. I need to borrow your chair again for 2 years anyways. Actually it's for my Cat.

Danglerb 09-03-2011 10:36 PM

Top item on my repair list is a littlebox. We use a LittleMaid automatic box that has a motor in a rake that runs it back and forth and dumps the lumps in a bin. This one is our third, they usually last about 3 to 5 year, but this one was kind enough to croak within the 1 year warranty.

BUT

Couple days of back and forth with tech support, no issue with them its just a process and matching east and west coast times etc., but two cats unwilling to hold it until a new unit arrives, so I ordered some "make shift" parts and will be repairing old litterboxes tomorrow.

Maybe when I am done I can play with my cars a "little"

you could have exhaust leak. where seams are you think there pinched tight but if you (cold) moving quickish (course heats fast) feel with your hands air pushing through the seams. pin holes anywhere and checking whole systems parts too. soap/water spraying at boltup/gasket sections.

engine .. vac.. you prob got that beat youve been over and over it. not to say still could be, in cis much more finicky, a internal seal in a internal part failure is enough to v leak. crazy in cis sys bad for any system but cis sure lets you know.

* fix....starting up the welder and getting to exhaust - not always a pretty picture some metals (tin) weld setting, and not so many chances to get it right itll just blow through and make a worse situation than patch a roo.

Leo -

Run E85. It should pass then. You would want to make sure there are no egregious faults with the way the motor is running, but it usually works. I nearly passed an 86.5 with no cats on E85.

Hmm, interesting. Is E85 available in the East County somewhere? What are normal Gas Stations that carry it (Exxon, Mobile, etc)?

What part didn't pass on 86.5? HC, Co or Nox?

I have to look at which part was just a few 100ths over the limit. I then turned up the FP and it made it horribly worse, WITH a cat. Turned the FP back down and passed easily. You can search for "e85" and "SAR car" on the other site.

Its on el Cajon Blvd off the 15 at Pearson Fuels. Just south of Mission valley. I don't think you have much to lose at this point. Its already labeled a gross polluter.

Let me know if you want to borrow a CAT. I took the CAT off the Stepson. It always passed with flying colors.

Ok fellas and Gals! Went for my free re-test today. I approached this with new Fuel, Fuel Filter and Cat.

Here are my Results:

AFTER:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1318033948.jpg

HC is now Awesome! My Nox went down but not enough. I also noticed that the Timing is showing 10btdc rather than 23btdc.

Would going from 10 to 23 btdc help my Nox? Also, do the Smog Test Machines put that data on the results sheet? I know he had a timing clamp to my wire.

MPDano 10-07-2011 05:25 PM

went to check the timing and it's 10 at idle then 23 at 3K rpms (vac plugged). I put it at 23 at idle just for kicks and it runs so much better. More power for sure. Due to Advancing I'm sure.

Anyways, according to the write up I posted, advancing will bring Nox up. Is this correct?

MPDano 10-07-2011 05:48 PM

Ok, after doing more research on this high Nox issue. I'm going to put the timing back to where it was (10 at idle), since advancing will bring Nox up. Then I'm going to richen the mixture. My A/F Gauge shows average 14.7 to 15 at 2500 rpm's, I think I'll bring it down to 13-13.5 to bring down my Combustion Temps.

How duz this sound?

rjm65 10-07-2011 10:22 PM

I definitely think you need to richen up the mixture.

MPDano 10-08-2011 10:57 AM

SUCCESS! Put Timing back to 10btdc at idle which is 23btdc at 3000 rpm's with vacuum plugged. Then adjusted the CO by Richening the mixture. Idle set around 800 rpm and 91 Octane Fuel
