Seat construction question

The drivers seat on my car is worn and I would like to attempt some type of restoration.

The ribbing between the separate pads in the seat is no longer pulled down low into the seat. What holds this ribbing deeper in the cushion? If I take the seat out of the car and remove the leather from the base padding will I be able to stitch/sew/glue... the ribbing so it is pulled tight and back into the seat like it was when it was new?

If I can do this, I will look at fixing and re-dying the rest of the leather to try restore it.

I believe its strips of fabric and hog rings.

Those are NOT bad looking seats.

Catch is that is where your rear end sinks into the seat, down stroke broke threads or supports, so seat sticks up with no butt. I think there has also been some shrinkage of the seat leather, which may be the real fix it item, new leather with more there.

Mike, I remember way back you had bought some Hog Ring Pliers to do some Seat Work. Did you ever get to use them?

Talk about a worn drivers seat!

My passenger seat:

And my ruined drivers seat, all thanks to the idiot OO who ordered cloth centers....

Some close-ups of the horror:

I'm thinking carpet-color coordinated perforated leather centers, to keep that two-tone look. What do you guys think?

Owning a 928 is risky business - but sometimes you just gotta say "what the fudge".

I never put any seat stuff back together, just took them apart using regular pliers. Plus the seats I was taking apart were all back seats, no front seats, which use the hog rings.

HF has a decent hog ring plier cheap last I looked, and any upholstery supply will have the stainless hog rings in various sizes.
