Auto antenna broke at the carwash

Ok, i know, I'm a dumb@ss....i forgot o tun off the radio at the carwash and it broke off

So i got a new one (some unknown brand but apart from it not being a "hirshmann" it looked exactly the same..go figure).
Problem was i couldn't get the new one to work, it seemed like the motor wasn't doing anything.

I don't remember if i read it here or on the Rennlist but i followed the procedure of swapping the aerial from the new one to the old and I'm glad to say, It worked !!

I also found a procedure to fix the rear hatch latch (kept popping open while driving) so i loosened the the male part of the latch (on the hatch) and inserted a couple of washers under the rear part of the plate, that changed the angle enough so it grips better.

I love these forums (both pelican and rennlist) they have saved me a lot of money in parts and repairs so far (yep, I'm dutch)

Thanks a lot guy's..

my antenna has a small curl to it, sometimes it is slow going up so i've tried straightening it by hand but its not quite perfect.

just the other day i was looking to try and find a small, non retracting antenna to swap it with. just like a black rubber, low profile one. I didnt have much luck, but i thought it would be a good swap, looks and function wise

I thought about doing that too (would have looked good too) but since i found a new powered one fairly cheap and the swapping of the actual aerial seemed quite straightforward i decided to keep it original (more or less).

I was looking at universal fm antenna's at a local car shop and if i was going too buy one i would have gone with the shortest thick, black (rubber?) antenna (about 25cm long, 1.5cm at the base tapered to .5cm at the top).

That sounds good, but you would need one that mounts at a side angle, not front to back taper if you know what i mean. I saw one today on a prius that looked like something i would want, but I need to find one that will mount correctly, and cover the existing hole

I replaced mine with this. Works great, flexible and cheap. It was like $15 at some pepautomegaworld place. They had like 10 universal ones to choose from. The base has a rotatable bottom that allows it to be mounted almost any angle.

On my Euro, I bondo'd the hole up and put a Shark Fin Satellite Antenna on the Center Hatch. On the "S," I went to a Stock Hirschman but in Black.

I like Pete's choice too.

Come to think of it. It was a serious Pain in the A$# to get the wiring up there.
