Oil Change

What is the recommended mileage between oil changes? My '88 has 76,000 miles and climbing. I hardly even drive my other car anymore.

It all depends on your driving, Hi way, City, etc. Some change every 3K, but 5K or 6K might be fine.

Kinda up to the owner (you). 3K using Dino Oil and 10K using Synthetic Oil. I use Synth in all my Cars and change about every 5 or 6K. And no, none of my 928's leak Oil due to using Synthetic Oil. Royal Purple 15/40 for me.

Do it yourself. Especially most Drive thru Oil Shops don't have the correct Oil Filter. Get the correct one from here (Pelican) or 928 Intl. I don't trust those Oil Shops as I've heard horror stories of them forgetting to refilling the oil. Not good.

Things to mess up in a 928 oil change;

Not using the correct amount, which is something like 8.5 qts? (8 with a filter, run and then top up).
Buggering the drain plug threads.
Failing to replace the crush washer on the drain plug.
Using too thin of an oil, like a 5w something.
Wrong oil filter.
Failure to notice some unrelated problem.

I use shell rotella 15w40 or Castrol 20w50.

Oil change varies due to driving conditions . One way to estimate when its time is take a look at the oil on the stick. It starts to turn dark brown or smell like gasoline its time to go.
I usually can get about 5k from my oil before its starts looking bad.
Change the filter on every change.
New crush washer. I needed 9 quarts for my car.
