thanks for all the super help all you guys...i did the work. about 50 hours work..replaced head gaskets and cam tower gaskets.. ( Rienz Germany makes a super head gasket for $49..modern materials..w/ silicon coating ) cleaned heads and piston tops of all carbon..painted cam towers in gloss red and intake runners in gloss blk and plenum in gloss red. started her up last night..ran like a tractor until i got timing just right and burnt off all the MM oil i primed cylinders with. great feeling..she purrs..no noises if failed bearings..i think I'm all good. lets see..local Porsche mechanic labor @ $100/hr @ 50 hrs = $5000! Great it run's again lol >> I am not surprised you did the job in the car at all .
50 HR's sounds about right for a first time now you could do it much faster.
Drive it slow for a few days as water will burn off inside the motor > don't worry about the New oil however as the Water will just burn off mostly in a few hours > a small amount
I am assuming you did install new Oil .
****************************
where did you order the head Gaskets can you post a link please sound good to me .

BUT... before this big job the car had a sporadic sputter..still does now all the time like one cylinder is misfiring.. just came on.feels just like a bad injector. yet all injectors are firing and OHMs are correct.new plugs.cap and rotor few years old.plug wires 4-5 years old. dammit! all plugs are getting spark.perhaps weak under stress? any ideas?-trying to upload photos..but photos are btm..from phone..can i convert to jpg?

Wouldn't it be better if you can get that Air Filter in front of the Radiator? Great job regardless. Did you take any pics with the Cam Cover off the car?

Ok the Miss : > could be several things > assuming the Compression is now good / Even some 10 / 15 LBS difference at the most .
They have a Huge amount of Vacuum Lines and devices So That's a Good place to start.
* Can use a water mister sprayer or a Garden Hose turned on very low and with the car outside and running ( idle is fine ) just run the water over the motor back and forth and look listen for a slow down in motor speed >> It will slow down if water gets sucked in a Vacuum Leak. This is a great Fast simple Test that cost no money .
* avoid water directly to the injector wires and distributor.
Another Vacuum Leak test is to with the Air Filter removed slowly Block off the air going into the motor but with out killing it >> If the Motor become smoother then most likely you have a Vacuum leak .
all those Gaskets around the MAF are a good place to check
****************
Bad Spark Plug wires > Good wires will throw a nice Blue ark and if loosened before starting you can remove them one by one from the Plug to view the ark
Should jump 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch and not be a weak Yellow Color But a Blue Color.
Bad wires will cause a miss > They can be checked with a scope also .
a little Jolt will keep you sharp lol
***********
all the Grounds > Check them again >
The Green Wire runs from the 12 Pin connector to the distributor > 12 Pin needs to be clean with no Green Gunk >
Circuit Board :Pass side Foot well look for Green Corrosion on both sides of the board
( Easy to un bolt the board to check the Back side . Starting fluid / Brass Brush and Compressed air do wonders .

Fuel Pressure Regulators has 3 < > 1 in front and 2 in back not all the same
CHECK the Hoses on them > replace them if bad

lot's more stuff perhaps other here will send their thoughts lol

They are not all pressure regulators:
1 regulator in the front, where the gas comes in, 2 pressure dampers at the back. Fuel enters the lines to the injectors from the front, goes back to the tank via the two dampers at the back.
Pull the vacuum lines on each, and smell for gas in the line. If any present, replace that part.

Painting the contact face of the cam gears not a good idea, paint won't last many miles and the flakes will have to go some place.

Pelican has a decent price on the gasket sets too with free shipping, worth a little google once you have a part number.

yes it would be..not enough clearance between hood and radiator for 3" tube. and also a problem w/ rain happens too..iam planning on buiding a heat reflector out of flashing for around the filter. un fortunately i didnt know my G friends camera could email..so i just got the last steps of putting it back together.

its gotta be something simple like that..now ive already cut my vacuum lines down to just the pressure regulators and distributor.and brake booster.. w silicone tubing..perhaps a pinhole? and ill check all those connections. all plug wires have a blue spark..ill re-check for arc distance..just installed new cap and rotor and spent time trying to get the timing right if its off.idles fine..only stumbles under load.

final captains log....928 is again in top form! i traced the missing down to a faulty injector as i first suspected. it passed all electrical tests..but failed the simple removal of connector till you dont here and engine change test. i replaced with an extra good injector and viola! shes purring again..and i swear it has 10% or more power with new gaskets! perhaps alot of compression lost from rotten head gaskets? So stoked thanks for all you forum guys sending me in the right direction..and the great satisfaction of doing a big job like that on my own!
