Condo testing my blood pressure

The worst thing about a Condo Association isn't what actually happens, life has taught me anything in practice can be dealt with, its the preamble that is most annoying. Today the monthly news letter was stuck in our door, first of the year all vehicles will be audited with the requirement that two be parked in the garage prior to parking in your own driveway or on the street inside the complex.

Currently I have bits of maybe three, but only one chassis in my garage, two in the driveway, one on the street I pay $30 a month for a permit, and one on a public street adjacent to the complex I move once a week before 7am for street sweeping, and I am looking for another car. After about 4 hours of bulging vein in the forehead time regarding my garage and my driveway being none of their business, google has told me they can enforce this rule from our CC&Rs.

Bottom line, some point after the first of the year, two cars need to be parked in the garage, and my long term resident donor car needs to be gone. I hate caving in, but its nothing compared to how little I like an expensive protracted conflict where I lose.

Expect to see some big pieces of the donor 84 Euro S for sale soon, maybe even some of my other junk. Sorry if its OT, but its Porsche 928 related therapy.

yeah i live at a townhome and we are only allowed to have two cars parked in the parking lot ..well i own 4 cars myself..a dodge truck, a mazada minivan, a toyota corolla and of course my Porsche. I have to leave the minivan and truck parked at my grandfathers farm. I am just waiting for the association to say i have to move one...of course it doesn't help that i pretty much run an auto repair shop out of the parking lot It really annoys me when people stick their nose in my business and i must admit we have lots of unused parking spots in our lot.

Fortunately for me I can get 2 cars in my 3 car garage, and could get a third in the other space if i ever clear it out, and two or 3 more in my driveway.
Also, I'm pres of the HOA, and I get to say what 'rules' get enforced

Careful on that one Mike, 72 hour rule in California. If anyone complains or if parking enforcement takes note of it, they can tag your car and then tow it if it sat for more than 72 hours. It's a great law when it's actually dealing with an abandoned vehicle, but many times people with nothing better to do feel it's their civic duty to keep the streets safe and call in a report. A lot of PD's will even allow you to report it over the internet via a form.

I live in a townhome and keep my 928 in the garage. The only time the garage door is open is when the car is going in or out. If I'm working on the car the garage door stays closed. I would say 90% of the people in the complex break the HOA rules on garage usage, (no storage, for parking of veh only) but even my neighbor has a big flat screen on the wall, a huge fish tank, and a sofa in his garage. We're all ok until someone complains. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

With Prices at Possibly Near Rock Bottom > (will the next year or 2 might tell us ) > perhaps you might consider buying another address . Today I am in Las Vegas and I am seeing Condos @ under $40 K and Houses not much more then that and on up . Most Median Home prices have dropped $100 K since 2007 But then some much more then that .
Heck to sell up a Porsche and pick up a House with plenty of parking is a consideration .
I looked at a Condo for $29 K today total cost with no HOA & 2 car Garage . of course who knows how long Lake Mead will have water they say by 2021 they could be in Bottom mud hummm
Very Interesting to see ( more then once ) 928's in the self service Salvage yards out on Boulder Hi Way with very complete car's in fact > Next time I will bring a camera perhaps . I remember bringing some part up to the window and they say " Whats it off of ? " and I say Toyota or Subaru LoL Clueless in Las Vegas

Life in the 928 Fast Lane -

Hey Danglerb, A good friend regrets moving into a new housing development in north Houston because of the growing regulations of the home owner’s association. Initially you had a chance to negotiate a reasonable resolution to most issues. Now there are actually a number of retiree’s who walk the neighborhood on a daily basis with a list of the rules, a clip board, camera and a tape measure to immediately report any potential parking, trash can and/or grass mowing infraction. Luckily my friend is able to hide one 928 project inside his own garage and temporarily keep another 928 parts car in his next door neighbor ‘s unused garage bay. What really seems like a conflict of interest is that many of the parking violations are resolved through the home owners association recommendation to move the offending car to the only nearby storage facility - owned by one of the scrutinizing retirees.

Sign, Sign Everywhere a Sign -

Michael

It's things like this that reaffirm my refusal to ever buy a home governed by any type of association.

Dangler,
You might talk with Tony 77. He is probably looking for a roller.

Tony77 just bought a Euro off ebay on the East coast. Donor car will shortly be more of a bare chassis than a roller and I've had no real interest in it even though it does have a CAL BAR sticker.

Everything good and bad about big government can be learned by living in a Condo.

OC isn't LV, our condo's are still over $400k, down about 25% from the highs. There was a time, a dozen or so years ago, and maybe a dozen before that where we "might" have been able to swing a second one and carry it long enough for the rent to meet the payment.

The outside street is pretty safe, its a dead street with zero traffic on the upper end, and most of the cars there all the time due to limited parking in the complex.

We are "toying" with the idea of letting one of my son's more reliable 21 year old friends who just got a full time job use one of the cars, but we are also pretty seriously looking at buying another Lincoln Continental 99/02 like we have now, except MUCH lower miles.

Condo life is what it is, gotta roll with it. I haven't counted yet, but unfortunately most of the units have 3 ft long driveways and have to park in the garage or a "guest" spot, so not much chance of a rule change. I don't even have a good feel for why they expect us to keep the garage just for parking cars.

Dude....I can go off for HOURS talking about all the problems that I had when I lived in my parents condo in Fort Pierce, Florida in the early 1990's.

I was a 25 year old guy living amidst a bunch or 70 to 80 year olds. They didn't like me. But the woman secretary, Peggy, of the association hated me. I eventually brought a cucumber into the office and handed it to her. "Honey, you need this more than I do" I said to her, then I yelled and screamed at her for 2 minutes. Reason? She had yelled at my father in Michigan over the phone, and then hung up the phone on him. He called me a minute later, I've never heard my father so angry! My dad never swore around me, and he suddenly sounded like a drunken truck driver!

They called the cops on me, but when the cop found out all the details, he told me not to try to prepare any more salads for Peggy and just call him in the future.

N!

PS: That broad just was out of control; She was obviously not getting enough vitamin P-

That would be an Adobe, more in it than dirt... Same stuff the Association is made of.
