There was a switch-over in, i think, 79 from horisontal gauges to the vertical ones that lasted until the MY '88 S4. And the PCB won't match, so be sure to check it carefully.

The horizontal gauges went through at least 83...

M28/01 euro motor. do I pull it and then scrap the car? or just scrap the whole thing when i am done parting it ?

I would think someone would want the tensioner, warm-up regulator, fuel distributor and intake tubes. Those are hard to find or expensive parts that somebody will want sooner or later. The fuel accumulator and fuel pump as well.

I forgot to ask if the lower grille was still intact. If it is, I could use the 3 vertical brackets that hold the horizontal vanes in place.

yah, it is actually, let me take it off and get back to you. I am in the middle of taking the fenders off so i can pull off the headlights... ( fenders do have to come off right?)
