My newest buy... 79, 928 5 spd , red
just bought this, towed it home, dug through it a little bit, the thing is pretty much a rat, which is a shame because I am in love with the pasha interiors. the passenger seat is non power, but salvageable, the rest are pretty toasted. the drivers window was stuck down for a year , so that seat is really hurting. i snagged some stuff off it quickly, I am most likely gonna send it to the scrap yard in a week or two, so if anyone is looking for anything easily accessible let me know.. paid a hundred for it, plus 100 to tow it. so i am into it for 200, I have a place paying me 300 scrap for it so as ratty as it is, anything i take off of it will be icing on the cake. most of the parts you guys might want are gonna be miscellaneous stuff, like knobs or stuff. the car is pretty tough so dont expect much.the speedo is Euro, and goes up to 260 KMph, and has 130k on it. I took off the little rubber ring around the key if anyone is looking for it. also on the left of the drivers seat there is a fog light knob. my other 928 had a speaker control knob, this has fog light. but either way, let me know if i can help.

Why don't you save it? If you put a battery on it, maybe with the door panel off, you can hit the switch and have someone pull up on the glass to at least get the car sealed up. Pull the Engine number and post it, then we can see what Euro Engine is in there. We have enough CIS experts here to get it running, maybe?

Meh, part it out. Looks like only a 10hp gain over the US 79 Model.

They look like 16 inch phone dials!!!

..
It hurts me to see people scrap their cars, especially ones as straight as this.. Yeah, the interior is rough, so what? Find a parts car and get the interior out of it. I dont think that dent above the rear wheel well would be that hard to pull out.
The engine is worth more than 300. I wish i would have found it, because that would have been my next project. If you got it running, pulled out the dent, and put some seat covers over the seats, you could probably sell that to a 16 yearold that wanted to look cool, and needed a car for 1000. Most of the parts cars around here cost more than that. But anyways, i need the rubber ring that goes around the key. Mine is rather ugly there without it. I also could use the driving light bezels, the alternator(if its good), and the tail lights if they are in good shape. Thanks! |
yah, i dont like scrapping a car as cool as this... however the other side of the car swiped a rail it looks like, and it had been sitting for 4 yrs with that window down apparently... when i talked to the guy selling it he said 1.5 years, a tennant at the place we towed it out of said to me " he's finally getting rid of it?" i asked him how long it sat, and he said 5-6 yrs. I think with a car like this, you might be better getting one that will atleast run and drive. it was such a nightmare getting it onto the trailer because the tires were flat and the car was so low it was bottoming out.Not to mention he said he couldnt find the keys, so i couldnt turn the wheel to get it up the trailer straight. I had to take a sawswall and cut the exhaust connection before the cat because the 3/4 square connecting flange was preventing it from riding up. manual winch, it was awful... got it home, found the keys...
i took the lenses plates off the tail lights, do you need the whole unit? housing and everything? and define bezel.. not sure what that is, not sure if the alt is good... um i could take it off easy enough, but i dont have a place to have it tested. the morons at advanced auto did not know how to hook mine up to the machine when i had taken mine off to be rebuilt. so not sure what you wanna do there. the phone dials are 16.. is that a big plus? i noticed here is a differentce between the 15's i had on mine, the circles are raised higher or something on the outside of the rim. slightly different look. what do they go for? |
muffler and windshield,and speedo?
|
pm me your phone number. im interested in the whole car
Thanks, Steve |
If the user above doesnt buy it, i want the tail light lenzes. What i mean by the driving light bezel : http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/2972/por78fbz1.jpg
Heres this, if the above picture doesnt display: http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/2972/por78fbz1.jpg It goes around the driving lights in the front bumper. You do know, if you aired the tires up that may have helped... Sucks that its swiped on one side.. If you have an autozone near you, they test alt's for free. What would you want out of it not knowing the condition? And i need the rubber ring that goes around the key. |

I had the same problem at advanced auto parts, i sat there for 30 min while some guy tried testing the alternator. he could not figure out where to attach the wires... brought it to a guy 5 min from my house who rebuilds them in his basement. he looked at it, said oh hey, that's an old PR. hooked it up and then rebuilt it over the wknd.
|
if you want the alternator.. i could take it out, bring it to him to test. if it works, make me an offer. if it does not, i could have him rebuild it for you. 125.00 is what he charges. he is pretty well known around here for really quality work starters and alts
|
$125 for a Rebuilt PR is a great deal. I would just get it done and not worry about testing it. Does he use German made Voltage Regulators? I have seen many rebuilders use Taiwan or Chinese Chicken Fried Sheeit Regulators. I bought a Remanufactured PR and bought a Huco (German made) Regulator from Roger, no problems at all.
|
If it isnt far out of your way, that would be great if you could have it checked.
But before you do, could you give me a ballpark on what you would want for the thing if it did work? I hate making offers, because i usually low-ball and look like an ass. I'm on a bit of a budget, (Not that small of one) but i do have one on the engine out of my 82 that i could put over on the 83. The one here got rid of their idiots, and actually have some people in there who's IQ's are in the triple digits, Orileys's on the other hand.....Never even have stuff in-stock for my common as hell chevy's, sit on the computer for 30 minutes looking for a tail shaft seal for a chrysler tranny, when they do find and order my stuff, 99% of the time its the wrong part because they dont know what they are doing.. One time i ordered a wheel cylinder for my dads Karmann Ghia, and they gave me one for a corvair. Genius's, right? |
What's the story on the clock? Let me know......

I'd start with 15 min or so with a shop vac and some brushes, vacuum some, blow some, then get a bucket to toss nuts and bolts in and start removing stuff.
Lots of things clean up better than you might think, judge nothing in its dirty state. Even if windows don't close, one of those big cheap tarps from HF can be tied on and last a winter. |

If this car still has it's Euro front driving lights, you won't be able to use the black trim on a US car - they're different. The Euro trim is NLA from 928intl, and I would love to take it off your hands... :) |
dammmmmm id love to have that ... id fix it
|
^^^^^^+1 billion; what he is saying........
|
i need a windshield
|
I'm looking for the trim piece that is missing in this picture (unless there isn't a piece that goes here)
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325214607.jpg |
motor is different kind of. or there is no trim piece in this ^ the trims are euro i believe , but only one is worth taking off if you are interested. . windshield is do able, what is it worth to you? shoot me a PM with an offer not including shipping. also, had a swell idea. Gonna weld up a bracket, attach the good seat to it, fix it to a swivel base to a desk/computer chair, and have a porsche seat for my computer chair. thought that was kind of a slick idea considering only one of the seats is good.
|
Great idea :)
I've also seen a couple of Porsche-chairs made into PS3/Xbox360 racing stands. |
cool w th windshield, not sure what its worth ? r u wiling to ship it ??
|
yah i will ship it.
|
I'm about to build a PS3 simulator with a 928 seat. First I'm going to have it recovered. These op art seats would make a killer seat for this. I thought about it when I saw it. Need for Speed The Run is pretty awesome by the way.
|
how much is a good price to have a seat re done? I had a wild idea for my other 928. i was lookin to have that checkered pasha sewn into the seats, but the authentic fabric is so expensive. but i found two other fabrics that I like. One is houndstooth, and the other is plaid, there are two links here, similar to what i'd want.

I need the flexible circuit card on the back of the gauge panel if you still have it. I've been running blind for almost a year now...
|
need a pic of what it looks like and i can try to get it.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325301404.jpg It's called a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) |
This is what I have now - note the completely trashed connectors. I only need the flexible circuit but will take more if you don't want to strip the gauge cluster down that far.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1325301393.jpg |
hmm.. that is attached to the back of the gauge cluster? and it comes off?
|
It does come off... not easily, but it does come off.
|
There are about 6 versions of the flex circuit board, make sure you get the correct one as others won't work.
Cowl cover varied between model years, some go all or most of the way across, some have a washer tank I think in newer models. Latest rev goes most of the way and you cut out part if needed. New quality windshields remain available for around $300 installed. Shipping one privately will cost you a bundle. Seach this forum for Michelle. Seats have four issues, materials, patterns, stitching, and install. Two fronts done right in Porsche leather are around $1500 (I think) from Rob or Paul. Installation frequently is the fubar, and IMHO requires a skilled craftsman with plenty of 928 experience. Premium materials are about $600 of the total cost. |
I figure since the donor is a 79 Euro 5 speed and I have an early 80 Euro (#106) 5 speed, that there's a good chance this flex circuit will be the right one. I'm willing to take the chance.

I got lucky and probably got one of 928 Intl's last ones for my 81 Euro for $101 a couple years back. |
