Not sure what you are referring to? What on the dash doesn't work? The cruise control is a separate system.

speedometer, temp gauge, amp meter, oil pressure. this is my first Porsche and i am not sure of what is broken?? should i just get a new pod. I want to order a service manual but they cover several years not just mine. Basically i just want to know if parts are interchangeable

All those gauges didn't just fail. It's more than likely a simple wiring problem such as a bad ground. Pull the pod and start looking for the obvious before wasting lots of money on parts you don't need.
Use Google to search for the manual in PDF format and download it.

OK found the problem with the speedometer busted gear from the drive motor to the numerical gear drive.( jack shaft gear). The gauge finger's were dirty now im just going to replace all the bulb's while im here
since im new to the game is it common for the 928's to have an aluminum front end? it's not fiber glass sound's like Metal |

All metal body, aluminum and steel. Just use a magnet to id them. There no fiberglass body parts on the 928.

A lot of times the white connectors that plug into the guage cluster come loose. It usually ends in one side of your guages not working at all, but the other side working fine. Sometimes the contacts that slide into the connectors are just dirty. I've read cleaning them with a pencil eraser is the way to go.

Take it slow and easy, first up tell us about you and your car; We can guess its a non US Porsche 928, what are the details like year and model and if you want to know about options post the vin too. About what is your location, so local people can help out and tell you about events, in fact its good to put this info in your profile or a sig line along with the above. We are nuts for pictures, so post a few. Thats not metric, its German, Brems are Brakes, Wasser is the stuff you drink when there isn't any beer. Roger at Home - 928's R Us Porsche Parts Store stocks the correct odometer gear. |

most likely the fingers on your mylar aren't making contact.
I'm pretty sure your speedo is voltage driven not mechanical I do love the German dash - almost tempted to swap you :-) mike

Speedo and cruise require the same signal from a rear sensor, often the issue is a 4 pin connector in the spare tire well. Wow, your sun roof works, congrats. All the switches are worked hard to directly drive the motors, need either cleaning or replacing. See Leo's write up on cleaning the sunroof tracks. Brakes and steering on a 928 take more force than a no feel power steering car, you get so you prefer it. Leave the spoiler off, better to have the clean lines and its mostly looks below 125. Heater valves tend to fail and get disconnected. Replace the hoses etc during a top end refresh. Flush the radiator, and put in a new thermostat and related seats and seals. Fixing PO mistakes is your new main hobby, back to stock removes many issues. Wiper is likely a simple linkage issue, but rebuilding the wiper system results in a much nicer quieter system. I think original rims were 15". Wish I knew this Friday, with the long weekend you could have gotten it all fixed. |

I just picked it up Saturday night swapped a wrecked 380 sl w/ 175k and a bad trans i picked it up at auction for $580.00
I let the car warm up by putting paper in front of the radiator got to about middle never over heated hit it with the heat gun 158 That's it . Took out the paper dropped to around 137 heater blows Luke warm (had to pee twice). ![]() once i got it around the lower temperature line the idle was just fine. i'm almost tempted to build an intake with a 850 holly on it. Is there a cold idle control on this vehicle Porsche not Mercedes

Make sure you get the correct thermostat and both seals. Some places will sell you a MB stat that doesn't fit. After you pull out the old thermostat there is a seal stuck in the middle of a smaller round tube opening that may need pliers to remove, but it needs replacing as well as the larger Oring seal.
Back in the days I was driving a 240z the shop got in a 2000cc early Fairlady, thinking 69 or 70, nice little car. |
