Jack stands?
Hey guy's I have another dopey question, I want to take the phone dials to the powder coat place, I really dont want to buy a spare set so I'm not really sure how to prop up the car. I have jackstands but the thought of my car on stilts gives me the willies (I have some daring young ones). Has anyone done this? If so what did you use?.............................................. ...NIX

i think a good set of jackstands are your best option. make sure you use the jacking points as illustrated in the owner's manual. you can also put blocks (like wood) under the rotors for added peace of mind. i've got daring young ones too. i understand your concern.

I use a set of Lift Bars with a 6 ton jack stand at each corner. this setup has worked well for me and I have found it to be extemely stable.

I put the rear stand at the jack point in the rear

I have both my cars on four jackstands - one at each jack point as indicated in the manual. And I completly understand your concern. Both my daughters (3 ad 7 years old) work with me under the car - so I wanted it completly secure.

Maybe take a look at the secret location, Liftbars .
Is powder coating a "good" idea for phone dials? Home prep and rattle can with the right paint seems to work fine. |

Lol... My next question... As I analyze this car (thanks to the mrs. For allowing me to move it from the side yard of shame to the driveway) I am all over the place on planing. I thought my phone dials were muddy, but they are actually scuffed. I was thinking powder coating. I live near most of the NASCAR race shops, and there are all kinds of little "support" businesses that do it quite cheap.
I thought maybe white, since that is the color I want the car to be, but the factory silver/grey is where I am leaning Ok... Lift bars are on my list! Last edited by AirtekHVAC; 03-31-2012 at 03:38 PM.. |

Here's what powder coated phone dials with hand painted center caps look like...no other way to go IMHO.

Linderpat In your photos the finish looks blotchy and the edges look to have curb damage.Do they?
Nixon since you have to remove the tires finish them yourself ,sand smooth ,prime with ht caliper paint, finsh with your final colour and when your wife is out use the oven to bake them at 140f degrees for 40 min. Then clear coat and bake that. Factory finish. |

not blotchy, and no curb damage. Not sure what you are seeing. They are perfect. You may be seeing light reflection.
