Wedding Celebration Blues

Celebrating 34 years together and thought we would take a nice Sunday ride in the '86.

Cruised for about 20 minutes and stopped to fill the tank with non-Ethenaol gas and BAM, she won't start. Turns over just fine but no fire. Ran the battery down, got a jump and she still won't start.

I noticed the big red light on the console was lit up and would not go out. After a bit it stopped turning over. I'm guessing fuel pump or relay.

Got a ride home for the wife and sat until the flatbed showed up.

At least she gave me a kiss and said "thanks for the ride" when I got home.

While your waiting for the battery to charge up order a can of deoxit spray from amazon,
get the 100% spray , a 2 oz can

remove the fuses and the relays and spray the front and back of the CE panel.
do the battery connections and the 14 pin connector under the hood.

' Order 3 53 relays from Roger and get a new set of good quality Buss blade fuses.

Remove the computer connectors and spray them
Spray the MAF connector and the ICV and the TPS, CPS connectors

Same exact scene two weeks ago right after I filled up the tank. Got back in the car and it ran all of 3 seconds.
Jumping the fuel pump relay resulted in a loud thunk from the fuel pump so it was a flatbed tow home.

The in tank strainer fell apart and jammed up the fuel pump. At least it's the easiest car on the planet to change the pump and strainer on. Downside is you get to drain out all the new gas in order to remove the strainer.

If it happened right after filling up, I'm betting the turbulence broke enough of it apart and you have something that looks like this inside your tank.

Deoxit is great stuff. Radio Shack sells it.
