cam gear turned

I am replacing the driver side cam gear. When I loosened the nut, it rotated about 6 teeth off (set at 45 degrees). I try to rotate it around, and just when it lines up at 45 degrees, it kicks to the same spot.

I've searched but can't find how to get it to stay put at 45 degrees so I can put the new gear on.

TIA
Chris

your going to need a Porken timing tool ,

once the gear is installed then you can adjust it,

to do that fit the gear to the shaft then snug down the bolt,
turn the cam with the 30 MM nut under the cam bolt,

then put the belt on while you hold the gear in position,

it may take two people to do this..

NOTE make sure to use a torque wrench on the cam bolt it gets torqued to 47 ft/lb
hold the cam with the 30mm nut under the bolt

NOTE with the gear off inspect the spider that the rotor screws into they can sometimes crack if your is rusted or cracked then replace

Okay, thanks.

I did some reading last night and got a little confused.

So, I put the new gear on in the same location as the old (6 teeth off). Then while holding the new gear at 45 degree mark, put the belt on to hold it in place.

and I do have the porken tool. Get it close and adjust from there.

got it!

adventure almost over.

removed belt and restrung it while holding the gear in place; finalized with the 32v'r.

rotated a couple times with the starter and lines up every time.

still have to replace fuel injectors and then will see if she starts (probably this weekend).
