Fuel relay keeps 'blowing'

If this appears familiar, I apologize. It just seems that I am not successfully explaining my problem so I thought I'd try again...

The fuel pump relay in my '82 was faulty but after replacing it I now have two that don't work.
The engine did momentarily fire but then the relay appeared to buzz for a few seconds and then all was quiet.

The score is mein auto 0; starting gremlins: 2. Any and all suggestions are super welcome.

Run a jumper where the fuel relay fits and attach it to a toggle switch. If the wire gets hot once you toggle on, then you have a short somewhere. How is the fuel pump? Did you run 12 volts directly to it?

what size fuse is in the spot for the fuel pump? id say what position to check but i dont know what year you have. MPdano is on the money here, im heavily leaning towards short, if that relay was brand new.

I ran the jumper (no start btw) and the line didn't appear to heat up (I used a light guage wire).

I also ran a line from a portable power box/mobile power/booster box and the pump whined away happily.

In the '82 the fuel pump fuse is in position 13 and is supposed to be a 16 amp fuse. It looks like the PO put in a 25 amp replacement...
