928s Fuel line time
I noticed this morning one of my injector lines was damp for about an inch above the injector. I bought the fuel line kit from 928sRUs last month so I'm thinking this weekend might be the time to replace all the lines.
Is there anything else ( like seals ) that I should replace while I'm at it? Also, I have one link that shows how to do it, if anyone can recommend another for a 928s or tips or anything..much appreciated. Thanks -Dan

To start, pull the fuel pump relay and then try to start the car. Once it stops disconnect the battery via the ground strap and get to work. There isn't anything in there that you can screw up, just make sure that all the fuel lines are flush with the fitting. Make sure that you test the system before you start the car up by reconnecting the battery and jumpering the fuel pump relay and check for leaks.
Sounds like you decided to start the job right when it should be done.

I just replaced all mine a few weeks ago. A dremel with cutting wheels for the crimped on collars makes the job go much faster. Be careful not to grind past the hose and into the barbed fittings. Strong curved seal picks to dig into the hose and pull things apart helps too.
The kit from Roger was great in that it had nice quality clamps and all the injector seals. Not a difficult job, just time consuming. The exterior of my fuel lines looked like new, nice and flexible with no cracking but when cut open and flexed, the interior was all checkered. After seeing that, I was glad I took the time to change them out.

Everything was going smooth until....
I got to the last line that goes along the passenger side of the motor. The top was easy but on the bottom..I couldn't get the stupid thing off. There was room to get a couple of wrenches in there but absolutely no room to move them. I ended up using a hacksaw blade and was able to cut the crimp in a couple places and pry it up so I can install in place. What's the secret to getting at that one?

Shorter wrenches. I almost cut a set in half but managed to dig up a pair that allowed me just enough space to break the fittings free.

I use an exacto knife for the bottom seals. What I do is shave the hose down to the point where it cannot hold the strength of me pulling it. I'm actually so good at this, I can do it and reuse the end fittings. Some of those hoses are so shot that they crumble apart and leave parts of the hoses down in the fittings making them hard to remove. I take the exacto and do surgery until the old rubber falls out. Fuel lines should be addressed as soon as you smell or see a leak. Otherwise you should keep some duct tape handy for those rare times that you are in traffic and one springs a spraying leak. A drip is better than a spray.

I just have to wire up the injectors and I'm done. What's the best method to check for leaks/etc.. Just start it and run for a few seconds then look around and check the connections?
Thanks again for everyones Help! -Dan

Take the fuel pump relay out and jumper it. This will allow you to check for leaks w/o worrying about the car running and risking a fire. Once you are sure there are no leaks this way then try to start the car and continue to check for leaks.

Guys using Dremel on fuel lines? If out the car ok....but where fuel or vapor could be in the lines? Use exacto....don't take risk of sparks here....

If the fuel lines have been depressurized and have been left open for a day or 2 to dry out plus having a completely empty fuel tank, you should be fine. Did mine with no problems and was instructed to do so by Roger.

Actually newworld is correct. Gas fumes are still explosive. Using anything that can cause sparks is dangerous to do near any flammable source. Off the car is the best way to do this job anyways. Roger is a well respected Vendor but that advice doesn't sound like him, especially after the fuel gauge on a fuel rail fiasco. Not saying it didn't happen.

I can see where this could cause problems. Maybe I just got lucky. But there was no way I could have removed the fittings on my car and was much easier to do in place. And if all the lines were hooked up when I did the replacement there wouldn't have been a change for fumes as I was only cutting the metal fitting thing away. Wasn't cutting into the line.

If you can't get the line off then reconnect the top line. No vapors will escape while you dremel the collar off the lower part of the line. Once the collar is off cut the line and proceed.

I dremeled mine as well....then cut the hose, then smoothed the fitting, just to make sure I didn't leave any score marks on it....then shoved on the new one...not too hard from the top, once I got the overflow tank off.

I know about those, I deal with them daily. You won't have to deal with fuel vapors if the line is sealed. Read his post and you will see why I responded the way I did.
