83 928 o2 sensor help

I have an 83 928, I am in the process of replacing the o2 sensor. finding and replacing on the outside of car seems to be easy, can anyone tell me exactly where the sensor wire is located (plugs in) inside the car? and how to best access this location? thanks.

It's connected at the bottom of the CE panel. It's located right where the passengers feet would be. Lift the carpet and it will become obvious how to gain access.

thanks. this is helpful. anyone have any tips/advise for this replacement?

On my 86 the 02 sensor lives in the V of the Cats. I had to drop the cats at the exhaust manifolds to reach the sensor.

I believe its a 17mm Open end wrench (use some chemicals to break it free (pb-blaster)) and a little antiseize (on the last threads) when installing the new one (none in the sensor itself, just the back half of the threads.)

Thanks. On my 83 the sensor itself is fairly accessible without having to drop the catalytic. My problem is finding exactly where the wire come through into the inside of the car (I know its near the CE board) Do I need to move the CE board to locate this? It would be nice to see a pic posted anywhere of that wire coming through, as well as what it plugs into. I'm kinda surprised this O2 replacement hasn't been covered more thoroughly someplace...

Seriously? If you look at the CE panel, it will be obvious like I said earlier. It will enter in the tunnel area and a foot of wire to a connector. Are you sure you want a 928 to learn to work on?

Of course I want a 928 to "learn" to work on- why wouldn't I if they're sooo "obvious" and easy like you say. I love my 928 buddy, I just don't want to F-up anything else around the CE panel, and with the unbelievable amount of pictures and forums on every other process, I just thought it odd that no-one has covered this better... thanks again...

Here are some pics in my $900 Porsche Thread. also, go through it as well as my Euro thread and you'll have enough pics to tear down a 928 and put it back together.

ok, the wires have all been located, now whats the deal with 2 wire vs 3 wire? the replacement part is 3 wire, the original is 2 wire.....

MPDano 05-16-2012 09:27 AM

I believe 3 wire is a pre-heater. My S came stock with 3 wires IIRC as the pic shows. Mine is an 83 as yours.
