Death of a Legend....

Yes, this is a Porsche forum, but, it's a sad week for all automotive enthusiasts...

Carroll Hall Shelby, the Texan who created the famous Shelby Cobra and uncounted other high-performance machines that turned the auto world on its ear, and made it a whole lot more fun for 50 years, died in Dallas Thursday night at age 89. He had been hospitalized for pneumonia.

RIP Carroll

You will be missed!

More appropriate to this forum. Tony Lapine, designer of the 928 died April 29th.

Former Porsche Design Boss Tony Lapine Dead at 81

There were some great cars.
There were some quite embarrasing dogs endorsed as well.

He ended up more of a salesman.

I consider you very very fortunate if your feelings delve into the core of the 928 as mine.

If so, and I am envious to say the least.

An event for you to remember for the rest of your life.

The entire event was a blast, but Tony was beyond approachable. I think he found it rather amazing that such a diehard 928 fan base existed. We spent hours with him the day after all the formal lectures at breakfast where any question we had was answered. Great guy. I still have a couple of the limited 928 prints in the picture. The one he signed for me I parted with after an offer I couldn't pa$$ up.

Hi. I am honestly happy and appreciate your post.

I 'm just wondering if you had your-visit- with him recorded or if you might take the time out to remember and write done your conversations with him.

Sort of a -QUICK MAGAZINE- interview.

I figure some of us here and some from Rennlist would like to know what was said.
I don't mean in any way to overstep any bounds here. - please know this.
BUT I THINK IT'S QUITE SOMETHING WHAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED AND YOU OUGHT-OR MAYBE- SHOULD PASS IT ON TOWARDS US FOLLOWERS.- Not kidding.

Thanks for your time.

I just kind of sat there amazed the guy was enjoying our company. That was 10 years ago. It's mostly a blur and some of us were hung over from all the after parties and good Scotch that many brought with. He talked about his days a GM. The design. All kinds of stuff. I was also taking the pictures. The guys to talk to are Rich Andrade who lurks mostly on the Rennlist 928 forum, and Jay Kempf who doesn't really care for the forums, plus he just got married so you wont see him around here. Those are the guys who will remember all the technical stuff.
