Whoooped by a BMW. Lol

I thought I would share my shame race with you all. Here is what model BMW NOT to mess with. The BMW 335i Twin Turbo inline 6 cylinder.

It was actually the same stop light as the Audi 2.0 Turbo I smoked thread, but this time I knew this BMW would smoke me. Instead of being head to head, I was actually behind him at the Stop light. He took off and so did I but without the kickdown by-pass. I had it floored and he went up the hill as if I was still sitting at the light. I had to verify by looking at the rear view and seeing all the other cars still just getting past the intersection.

Sometimes you just gotta say "WTF?"

Here's a video I found on Youtube of that model BMW.

LOL, at least you gave it the ol' college try! I give you kudos for that!

I think that model has over 300hp, right?.....I thought they were rated near 325 or 340??? Something like that? So, it's gotta move pretty well. And, yeah, these stupid 928 transmissions suck.....I'm gonna look into that kickdown switch for mine.

I remember trying to race a 911 turbo with my Toyota MR2 (Supercharged model) back in the 90's....no contest...lmao... I got my ass handed to me that night! LOL

My wife has an X5 with an inline 6 and they haul butt without Turbos. I can't image how that feels with two of them. Yes, I believe the 335i specs are over 300hp. Yes Mike, he felt threatened by my 30 year old car, which is a good thing.

had same thing happen the other day.. passed a guy pulling out of a road in an STi , i could tell he was grilling my car. the road opened up into a straight away, as soon as i drove past the road he was coming from, i knew he was gonna get up on my ass, so i punched it.. passed the car in front of me, and took off.. look back, sure enough he was passing the car too, and with out question woulda roasted me, but i got on it as soon as i saw him pulling out, trying to give the impression he could not catch up.. what's a kick down switch?

850 BMW - 12 Cylinder

One afternoon while heading east out of Dallas on I-20, one of those BMW 850 series came slinking down an on-ramp and pulled into the fast lane behind a late model Corvette. We were all jockeying for position at around 85 mph when that 12 cylinder Beemer changed lanes a couple of times and disappeared in a matter of seconds. The Vet had initially made a brief pursuit but realized he would need a bunch of extra cylinders to even make a show of it. Man - that 850 series is a pretty car…

I pushed my white '84 928S up to 135mph one night just trying to catch an Audi A8 on the only down hill stretch of highway in town. So at a 135mph, he was still walking away from me and fast. I'm willing to bet he was burning 160mph when I figured out that I had no chance of catching him. It was the fastest race I've ever been in, and one of the only ones I've lost. My wife was with me and I laughed and said that I now had to sell all of my Porsche stuff and buy Audis.
The tricked out Mazda RX7 with the 3 inch exhaust was a fun race, but I kicked his a$$ so it was a lot more fun.

There are many late model cars out today with a lot of horse power that can easily blow off a 928 in the straights. My car is 25 years old now and I think it is one heck of a car for it's age.

A 928 will lose to most modern preformance cars.. but bring on something from the 80's!, if you can even find something still running

I wonder if the outcome would have been different if you had a later model 928 (32 valve) with 4 speed trans. My auto works great if I put it in 2, it starts in 1st, then it will hold first until I move the lever to 3, and back to 2 then it will hold 2nd til I move the lever again to 3.

Doing this I have yet to lose to any 3 series, however I havent taken on one of the newer 335i's Maybe I'm just lucky.

Big car show around here next weekend so I guess I will get to find out for real.

The 928 will still keep up with most new cars in the turns and in handling and beat many of them in that respect. But to try and run a street race with cars that have 200 or 300 hundred more HP is unreasonable. The 928 is made for winding, twisting roads, not the drag strip.

There are a few country roads with sharp curves near me. The other day I was going down one and the turn is marked 15 mph. I have taken this before and knew the road well. There was a guy on a Harley following me pretty close, so I took the turn at 40 mph....I could see the Harley at about a 45 degree angle and I think he wet his pants and almost dumped it.

I don't know.. maybe still the Mustangs. But have you driven an Evo, Sti, or 370Z lately? I can't even hang with them in my track 951 whick handles 10x better than my 928. Not knockin the 928 but.. the new stuff has caught and passed us. I still want to be in the 928 though.. it's not about all that.

The 928 came out in 1977, right? Pretty darn advanced for it's time. Really, when you come down to it, unless you are racing, what more do you need in handling. 10 times better than a 928, I doubt it. Some guy came up to me the other day, and asked what it was. I said a 928 Porsche and he said is this a 2012, I told him no, a 1986!!!! As for the new stuff that has caught and passed us, sure took them a long time!

CA is not letting that happen anytime soon Leo. no carb aftermarket SC's available to my knowledge. i think 2-3 hours pull time (cutting corners and leaving mounts in place) for an SC is not that bad every 2 years though. or become good friends with your local smog guy ;D.
the issue for me would be if i ever went to a distributorless EMS should mine fail at some point, going back to distributor just for the check would be a real pain. Wasted spark mode i think would throw off the sensors they use too if you even could convince them to pass visual.

Very true if you wrap the weld points on the manifolds for the flanges and put some shielding over it, although the blow-off noises might be a dead give-away along with needing a modified intake which might fail visual unless you drop everything.

Pick your poison, over or underneath the car.
