Anti-freeze

The wife used to have a Benz, with an Aluminum (6) in it.

I bought some AF for it, to do a flush, but traded it...

So, since the Porsche motor is AL....do you think it is safe to use this stuff, if at least for testing as I work on getting this creature started?

Technically it should be ethylene glycol (not propylene glycol , green stuff) It should also be silicate and phosphate free. Having said that my car had the wrong stuff in it for at least 10 years and I never had an issue.
I think what most important is not mixing them. I heard it can cause foaming and effect the cooling if the wrong 2 are mixed.

I wouldn't hesisitate to use just even straight water just for testing purposes. Maybe pick up a couple gallons of distilled if so there's not minerals or anything.

they do, but see if there are different MB coolants with different specs. I have been told DO NOT use the new Porsche coolant either as it's all wrong for our cars. (I have not idea why)

Kool...if I remember correctly, it is a yellowish orangeish fluid....squash like color, and her car was an all aluminum motor / block. I have already flushed the entire system and refilled with pure water. I have a well system with a mineral / carbon filter on the system, so I believe my water is pretty decent....but distilled wont be a problem either. When I flushed it, the old fluid was the green type, and actually looked really good considering how long the car sat....

hmmmmm.

On my 88 in which I've owned for over 15 years I've used p.glycol-green stuff- no residual problems ever !

I wouldn't fuss to put it in the 87 whatsoever.

No residual problems detected yet, but you haven't had the heads off right?

Zerex G05 is what all my cars will have, AF has improved in the last few decades.

Send a message via Yahoo to Mrmerlin
to fill your 928 system you need 2 gallons of coolant and 2 gallons of water,
since you only have 1 gallon of coolant you dont have enough.
Use distilled water found at the supermarket to mix with the coolant.

As Dano has suggested the Zerex G05 seems to work very well and thats all i use,
NAPA sells it

it won't hurt and since you already have it, use it. but check to see if you need more. if so, you may have to buy another gallon of the same.

otherwise, you can always just sell it for $10. i am sure someone will pick it up.

I use the Prestone 50/50 anti-freeze "Mix w/ Any Color". Never had problems. It's also a five-year coolant.

Yeah, go ahead and use it. Both the MB stuff and Zerex in a gold jug are G05 chemistry and are used in new MB's, Chryslers and Fords.

It's a long life anti freeze that's specifically designed infrequent coolant changes in alloy engines.

Green stuff is OK as long as you don't leave it in there for too long.
