Starter won't come out

I own a 1982 928. I can't put it up on ramps because of the front spoiler. I jacked it up and pulled the bolts out of the starter but it won't come out because of some cross-member or stabilizer bar is blocking it by about an inch. Do the front tires have to be on the ground or do I have to remove the bar to get it out?

Keep moving it in different angles. It will come out.

Sounds like your motor mounts are collapsed and that is making your motor hang too low.

VERY CAREFULLY using a nice thick block of wood, carefully jack the motor up about an inch or 2 (very carefully as your car is on jackstands. ~~ You need to get a low profile jack for these cars.)

With your motor the correct height the starter should pivot clear the anti-roll bar.

other option here is to remove the rear sway bar clamps to chassis, then drop the rear of the bar ,
the starter will then drop out.

WARNING
I would not put the rear wheels on ramps then jack the front,

if the E brakes are questionable then the car could easily roll forward with the rear wheels coming down the ramps and the jack rolling forwards.

Better to jack the car up and put jackstands under each jacking pad
