NEW Paint Change for my son's 1980

I have been working on my son's car for the last couple months. Getting it ready for a full repaint. He wants to change the color. Looking for "out of the ordinary" colors.

Garrett is only 24 and wants something other than stock colors.

Ideas??? Pics if you have them.

Thanks, Dean

I'm going to paint this myself so fancy paint is out. This will be my first paint job so basic b/c will be in order. Interior is black so any color will go fine.

He is leaning to a copper/ orange color. I kind of would like to see Continental Orange myself.

What ever you do not put on some cheap Base coat and clear. And the epoxy that you are using has a window in it at least let it set up for at least two to three days. But you can put on some self etch primer then let flash and put your primer over that the key is to not let the self etch set to long or you will have to re sand and reply the self etch again. And if you use the self etch DO NOT SPAY TO HIDE or it will peel of in sheets

Check out some of the colors on the site below, there is a model and year search...
Auto Color Library - The World's Largest Online Color-Chip Library

Look at some of the 70's BMW's (3.0csi, 2002) and Porsche's (914, 911) palletes.
Do a BING car picture search.
Colorado Orange: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y258/vroomer/CSL01.jpg
another orange: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y173/alamarlab/shamrock07/Shamrock07032a.jpg

BMW had a couple of interesting Oranges and Greens.

a goldy/brownish GREY , call it kalamazo grey Note the kalamazo would have the copper metallic fleck into the grey

Yes his was black metallic...but he said it looked too much like my Slate gray Metallic. He is still in that stage that he does NOT want to look like Dad...He and I have come a long way since his brothers death 6 months ago. I hope we get there.

I know what you mean. I think we all go thru stages that we don't want to be like are parents.
There was an orange color that was available in 78 only, I think . I have a first year color chart that shows it. I've never seen one in it but I think it would look great. Ill try to remember to post it when iget back from sitm. I also like your idea of redoing the seats in a period style.

JoeyICU 4-21-10 pelican classified porsche for sale- 928 (says its like lambo orange, paint code avail? ) looks better on the 928 if you like that color. justs looks more subtle/less flashy on a 928. That is a good pic of a 928 done in orange. YOU HAVE TO USE SEARCH THIS FORUM (928) OR IT ONLY GOES BACK THROUGH 5/MAY SALES. OR ADDITIONALLY AND MORE DAYS OF THREADS DOWN BOTTOM OF PAGE TO GET 4/APRIL.

Car is now with my daughter on East Coast, and she says everyone stops her and asks what it is, and they love the color.

that car is actually very close to the color of my first car ever, a 1977 VW Rabbit that was "Bali Green".

-It was bright green!

I made great sport of the car, which had black bumpers and black trim.... I eventually put Rabbit GTI stripes on the side of the car in black, along with a "Wabbit" sticker on the windshield. I'm sure that car was famous at Embry-Riddle University. Everyone knew it from its amazing color!

Guards red is a stock color. Seal it spray it, and may not even have to buff it. He could even be brought in to help lay down some of the paint. I remember my first red spray job I did as a teenager totally unsupervised . Probably had it buffed before my pops could take too close a look at it (my 70 GTO). Ah yes those were the days- or so I thought, huh? Cars got faster then found cars could go flat out around curves. Just make sure he knows to tell you when he gets ticket(s) so you can make sure they get paid pays them .

Here a few to see if he likes the stock color (not mine). Your paint supplier may know guards red by heart. Now I need to find a 997 in the color above in person.

Goodluck.

Regards,
