Air conditioning blowing hot, but not right away!

Replaced air conditioning compressor and updated to R134. Now my air works but after a few minutes of driving it starts to blow hot! It feels to me like there's both hot and cold air coming out at the same time. Is this possible? Any ideas why this could happen?

Heater valve is not working properly and you are getting heat all the time. Starts a few minutes in because it takes that long to heat up and overcome the A/C. My opinion.

Is the compressor engaged and suction line sweating?
If so, you have a heater control problem. It's probably blowing cold at first until the heater core heats up.

Same issue here. How do you fix this?

They are vac operated so check that first. If that is good to go check the valve for cracks. Replace if needed...I don't think they are too $$$.

Heater Valve -

Hey Rjrandalls - You might try checking the position of the vacuum controlled heater valve arm to see if it is moving to the closed position when the A/C is turned on. You can zip-tie the arm closed as a troubleshooting step.

Some owners have even zip-tied the heater valve arm to the closed position during the summer temps. The reason is because each time you shut down the engine on some cars - the heater valve can gradually open and unwanted hot water can refill the heater core. The heat of the hot water must then be dissipated before the cabin cools down once the A/C is turned on again.

Good Luck, Michael
