Visiting the 1%
I went to look at some hifi gear on CL today and ended up inside a gated hilltop community. One of the driveways had two Panamera's in it, clearly taxes are not high enough yet.
Bought a couple nice old stereo bits, and the kid was plenty nice, but I kind of wonder what the details are that put somebody in a $5 million dollar house. I wonder if their HOA is annoying? One can only hope. |

Maybe our nutcase empty suit pres gets reelected and maybe he'll redistribute that.
Funny thing, that's his hollyweird supporters and they've got that wealth well sheltered from him. Last edited by Landseer; 10-19-2012 at 02:01 AM.. |

Success should never be demonized in this country, who's ever got a job from a poor person? I haven't.
Keep talking 1% and they will stop investing and some will leave, then we can look forward to being like Europe, broke. The rich already pay 70% of all the taxes to the federal gubment It's not the governments money people, it's our money!!!!!! Wake the F up. What is wrong with people? The Government spends too much. There is not a tax revenue problem, it's a spending problem. Work your a$$ off and buy a Panamera if you want one. I am by no means rich, but i never think in terms of wealthy and the 1%. Obama started this class warfare thing with the 1%, What happened to uniting everyone? What a fake he turned out to be. If Holleyweird doesn't manage to get this know nothing re elected, it will be a much better outlook for the U.S. I will not be voting for him this time.

I've never understood what rationale people have for wanting to punish high income people. Will it make their life any better? Highly unlikely. If they have lots of money, good for them. If you want to have lots of money, opportunties abound - go for it. Demonizing someone else will only make you miserable.

So true. I think my 1986 listed for about $60,000 then. A lot of money for a car in that year. I remember seeing John Denver driving a 1982 928 down frontage road in Vail, Co., back then when I lived there.

Sorry everyone for losing it,
I have had it with this President, he does more campaigning and rounds of golf than any President in history from what info is available. He seems to be there for the perks. Sorry again Danglerb, wasn't meant to be directed at you. My business has been really hurt by the idiotic Dodd-Frank Bill.

My Dad paid $19K for the house I lived in, in 1969. 10 years later someone paid $30K for my 928. Definately not a "middle class" vehicle.
Frank Dodd.. that's the bill that makes my investment guy call me all the time and have me explain to him that I know nothing about investing right?

This is a perfect example of why attacking the 1% is bad. Say 30years ago they raised all the rich peoples taxes. so it was "fair". Well, they'll be okay but they don't buy things like a new 928s. The 928 doesn't exist. So every salesman ,mechanic and parts supplier for 30 years loses business. How much have we all spent on our cars? There's no 928 int, 928 motorsports, 928 Specialists, 928's r us. How many families does that support? They say the rich will by a different car.. well maybe.. a crap can disposable car, that is gone in 10 years that no one treasures. and no one continues to profit from. It all started with a rich guy with extra money. All the luxury items they buy are built, sold, transported, maintained, are rebought buy the other 99%. You guys don't really think the 1% are working on their own stuff do you?

I'm a surgeon. So I suppose that puts me in the "1%" Trust me. At least at THIS end of the 1% it doesn't go as far as you'd like to think it does. So yeah - I probably fall in the 1% - but I drive a $7500 (on a good day - and only because I've invested the hours to MAKE it that) 31 year-old 928. I grew up poor enough that we had an outhouse, and running water happened when we kids ran to the spring to get it (and I'm not THAT old - mid-40's). I appreciate a good value, and I cut coupons, shop in thrift stores and enjoy flea markets. And I love Craigslist! And I am extremely grateful for the opportunities this country and this educational system offer to ANYONE. I work on my cars because I ENJOY resurrecting them. I enjoy driving them knowing that I am responsible for my comfort - or discomfort - if it breaks down. But that said, if I thought I could afford a Lotus Exige today, well, I would STILL look for a used one... ![]()

I see a lot of fancy cars here in my little town. The 1% folk's have many expensive homes here, drive all kinds of exotic cars and pump money in the town in summer. The guy down the street is an MD, owns a hotel here, drives a fancy Ferrari F-430 or something. If not for the rich, we could not buy some of their used cars. I got my 928 from one of them!! If this administration continues you will all be driving cars like in Cuba.

There is some Godzilla-size irony in the wealth-hating redistributionist being a 928 owner.
There will be no Porsches in the coming worker's paradise, Komrade. |

Seems like we all agree here on something we were least likely to agree upon.
Redistribution is nuts. Wealth haters are nuts. |

Without the 1% we wouldn't be owners of these cars. Someone had to buy it new & start the depreciation curve going. Sure wasn't the guy making $10/hr.
Some 1% got it the easy way (family), but a LOT of them just worked relentlessly. Most of us have wasted enough time & money, that if put to better use could have gotten us closer to being a 1% er. I'll never be one, but don't think they should be made an example of. If it's not illegal money or they didn't cheat someone to get it- good for them. |
