Kinda get to work on car....

Well, had another day of work planned on the new house...then it all went to heck when we noticed a pile of grey gunk on the ground where my daughter has been parking her Murano. I stuck my fingers in, and knew right away what it was....a look underneath, yup...CV grease....

Boot kit, $42....entire axle assembly with new CV's, all pre-assembled, and ready to install....$82 shipped (yay Rock Auto)....

So I will be tearing apart the front passenger side of a 2006 AWD murano today, in the Porsche shop, next to poor #30, who really needs my attention....

Anyone done this job? Any tips? Looks pretty easy.

I would ask in a Murano forum, or google it.

I just replaced the RF inner boot on an employees Murano two days ago, what a big gunky mess. The 928 is much more fun to work on

Well, I got her done...it sucked....disconnected A-arm, drop link, tie rod, caliper, disc, and strut...pulled the entire shaft, including the axle...then separated the axle from the CV axle (which took a couple hours), then put the drive axle back in the car, making sure not to bust the seal, then put the new cv axle int the drive axle, could not get the bastard to snap back in (there is a loose ring clip in the splines that compresses and locks into a groove at the back of the female end of the axle). Loosely bolted everything back together, then cussed and hammered the end of the cv shaft at the spindle (yes, block of wood), until it finally popped in...then put it all back together tight, and road tested....being the great dad I am, I then cleaned it out, aired up the tires, and filled the tank for her....

Since i had the tools out.... I went ahead and put #30 up on the Porken lift bars I bought 2 months ago...so, progress made, albeit small...

Don't you know it! So glad I bought a complete cv shaft... Inner and outer already assembled, greased, and sealed!

Nice, $82 per side? What a deal. I'll never repack CV's again

Yea, 82$ for the passenger side, AWD, included inner and outer joints. A 2wd was even cheaper.

YUP!

I have determined that I need better jackstands...mine get a little wobbly at the height they are at, and I want them a little higher...

Ron,
Those do look a little wobbly. Need to get that lift now!
Just did my S4 rear boots, easy, a little messy, but easy with the lift!
Hope the house is going well, best of luck on that! Enjoyed our visit, will be back in your area soon.
I do know the maintenance issue with 5 cars in the stable, there is always something to fix!

Hi Dave! I sent you a PM...

Got the little book...thank you very much!!!! It's not too bad wobbly...quite stable, and I have some "safety" stands underneath....I just want to put some beefier ones in place...house is going well...all the sheetrock is up, painting soon, and then floor, then the electrician comes back and installs everything....I am about 80% on the HVAC....Hope to see you again soon!

Ron, Looking forward to seeing your progress. I have to get plates for mine and then I will come out.

I jacked mine up that high but I used some 2 x 6's piled on each other (about 4), then used the jacks at it lowest point. The car was very stable and easy to work on.
