928 wiring questions
Hey guys, so I have a 85 928 that someone attempted to swap the harness. the engine harness seems to be all there and hooked up. the issues that I am having are kinda odd. I have power to my starter and alt, but no power across the fuse panel unless I jump the wire from connector V on the fuse panel. That's one issue, the other problem I am having is that I have a few wires that I'm not sure where they are supposed to go. the wires I cant find a home for are on the drivers side of car near the rad support, its part of the harness that runs up to the coil. the wire colors are 2 black with small ring terminals, the other one is black with a yellow stripe and has 2 small ring terminals on it. Maybe the car is missing parts? Any help would be awesome since this has been someone elses project and it was dumped on me, and 928s I rarely see. especially all torn apart like this car was when I first got it.

Can we get more pics of the engine bay and the engine stamp? this is somewhat confusing as from this picture, the engine appears to be an 84 US or earlier ( no distributor on the cam sprocket cover nor twin distributor from that angle. alot of changes happened for the engines between 84-87.) if it is a us 84, the screw points would make more sense as there are 2 ballasts for the ignition coil, one for starting at 12v and one for running (6v i think?).
Also for no power at CE panel. the circuit for the battery goes to the starter, then to the alternator, then to the jump post at the passenger side in engine bay then to the CE panel. look for 3 red wires at the jump post crimped to a single ring terminal and confirm you have 12v there. others may be able to answer RE: the 14 pin connector as well. Best of luck, Jonathan.

What is the engine number? Look further to the left in your photo, to the left of the water bridge and down at the horizontal part of the block. You should see a number there starting with a M28/ tell us the next 2 numbers and we will know what you have, but that looks a lot like a M28/19 or 20, which is the 16v 4.7L A true 85 will have a 32 valve 5.0L, and that doesn't come close to looking like one. Or email me the VIN and i'll tell you what you have

This is the wiring for the ballasts, and you need them or you will fry the distributor!

Look in the area I highlited below, you'll find the number on the cross piece under the hoses.
