Upholstery stapler question
I'm recovering Garrett's rear seat bottoms in his 1980 928. The originals are foam and the leather is just stapled to the foam with a outward clinch design staples. What stapler can I buy to do this properly??? I have found manual ones but I'm thinking the force of pushing down hard enough to get the staple out will deform the foam.
Is a air controled / electric outward clinch stapler the way to go? Thanks, Dean Last edited by Dean_Fuller; 06-04-2010 at 06:20 PM.. |

I think you might want to ask Paul or Rob, casual searching I didn't find anything that didn't on closer inspection look like a straight in stapler.

My Upholstery Air Stapler Gun only staples straight in. Not sure how it could flare out or in without something on the inside making the staple do that.

Bostitch is good brand in most things, and one of manual staplers is going to suck fast.
I'd still like to hear what an expert has to say, since its not all that clear if its the gun or the staples that are special. |

I'm in the process of redoing my seats in leather with a kit from 928 leather. I wondered the same thing about the foam and staples etc... Arrow makes a staple gun just like the classic T50 but with an attachment on the head that does the outward clinch. The model number is T-50-OC or T-50-OCp I ended up ordering mine online. I think it was around 40 bucks, but well worth it when you consider the cost of pro interior work.
It uses normal staples and you can adjust how much it splays the ends. You will also need some high stregth upolstry glue for the down in the seams. Its not hard, just take your time and it will look good. Here is one of the sections of the rear seats that I'm doing. ![]() ![]() and the stapler ![]()
