one wire alternator for 928

Is there any availability of a one wire alternator alternative for a 79 928?

Here's an old thread (about this topic) on the 928Forums that I remember reading a while back.

Anyone tried mounting an alternator in place of the air pump (if there's room)?

That was a thread I started, same Delco alternator's been in the car now since 2008, so just over 5 years by the date stamp on the original post. Time flies........

One wire?
You mean self-exciting, with single heavy cable, no excitor wire?

Why not fix the excitor circuit?

Here's use of a delco alternator as a replacement, but it needs an excitor wire in position "L" of the GM universal pigtail, rest of pigtail is blanked off with silicone, and the big heavy wire goes to the lug directly (2 wires, like original):

Here's another Delco Alternator Installed - Rennlist Discussion Forums
